The Ministry of Health, in collaboration with the University of Zambia (UNZA), with support from UNESCO under the Lusaka District Health Office and Kalingalinga Nurses, today flagged off the Oral Cholera Vaccine (OCV) campaign. The initiative also includes the distribution of free chlorine to all UNZA students.
The campaign will run from today until Friday. UNZA Response Peer Educators, alongside staff from the Ministry of Health, have been stationed at strategic points across campus to ensure easy access for all students. Students are strongly encouraged to receive the vaccine, as it will help protect them against cholera.

UNZA RESPONSE ROLLS OUT CHLORINE DISTRIBUTION DRIVE.
The University of Zambia response office today distributed over 1,000 bottles of chlorine to the student populace as part of a public health initiative to prevent waterborne diseases following recent heavy rains.
The distribution covered several hostels, including Tiyende Pamodzi (TP) Hostels, Kalingalinga Hostel, and Kafue Hostels, with plans to extend the exercise to other hostels across campus.
The initiative comes in response to stagnant rainwater that accumulated around some identified hostels, raising concerns about the risk of water-related infections.
By providing chlorine, the response aims to help students treat their water and maintain proper hygiene during the rainy season.
UNZA RESPONSE Public health coordinator, said the move is part of ongoing efforts to improve the living standards and health conditions of students on campus.
They urged students to use the chlorine correctly and continue practicing good sanitation and hygiene to prevent disease outbreaks.
