Fighting Period Poverty Through Sports: Insight Hub and Girl Sports Mentorship Launch the "Pad A Girl" Campaign
IH is proud to have hosted the first activation of the Pad A Girl Campaign yesterday at Chinika Grounds, Kanyama. 💖
We spent the day with the amazing girls from Luyando Foundation Sports Academy and Chibolya Sports Foundation, empowering 80 girls with a 5-month supply of sanitary pads and Dettol antiseptic liquid. 🌸
We also shared valuable menstrual hygiene education, because knowledge is just as important as resources.
A huge thank you to all our friends, colleagues, and most importantly our sponsors & partners, Gatbro International – for making this possible. Together, we are breaking barriers and giving girls the dignity they deserve.
At the heart of this movement is a clear and ambitious goal: to provide 1,000 pads per girl, under the empowering slogan, “Pad A Girl, Empower Her World.” The initiative seeks to address the often-overlooked yet critical issue of menstrual hygiene, which continues to affect many girls' ability to participate fully in sports and education.
In many rural and underserved communities, girls are forced to miss training sessions or stay away from school due to the lack of access to sanitary pads. Beyond just the physical barrier, the campaign also aims to challenge the stigma and cultural taboos surrounding menstruation, a conversation long overdue in many parts of the Zambia.
“We’re not just distributing pads,” says Nazia Alloo. “We’re creating safe spaces for education, empowerment, and dignity. No girl should have to choose between her period and her potential.”
Samantha Miyanda adds, “This campaign is about awareness, impact, and change. We want to ensure that girls are not only equipped with what they need physically, but also mentally and emotionally, to understand their bodies, their health, and their worth.”
The Pad A Girl Campaign is a rallying call to individuals, organizations, and institutions to take action, through donations, awareness drives, and community engagement. By breaking the silence around menstrual health and supporting young girls with essential resources, the initiative is sowing seeds of confidence and hope.
Together, IH and Girl Sports Mentorship are proving that when women come together for a cause, change is not just possible , it’s powerful.
