Sport In Action

Sport has the power to transform lives.

Through a growing partnership between Sport In Action and The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award Zambia, young people across Zambia are gaining opportunities to build confidence, develop life skills, and become active leaders in their communities.

Delivered through Sport In Action’s community sport hub sites, the programme allows young people to work towards the globally recognised Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award while participating in sport, volunteering, skills development, and personal challenges.

What began as a pilot programme has already reached young people across multiple provinces, with impressive completion rates and strong community engagement. The initiative is helping youth discover their potential while building resilience, leadership, and a sense of responsibility to their communities.

Together, Sport In Action and the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award Zambia are using sport as a powerful platform for learning, growth, and opportunity.

Sometimes a child’s health can be overlooked when families face difficult transitions.

In Kaya Village, Itezhi-Tezhi District, four-year-old Dina experienced the heartbreaking loss of both her parents at a very young age. Now under the care of her 72-year-old grandmother, Dina had missed several important childhood vaccinations due to the many disruptions in her life.

During a routine door-to-door outreach, Community-Based Volunteers identified Dina as a child who had not completed her immunization schedule.

Working together with community health workers and her grandmother, they helped Dina access catch-up vaccinations so she could receive the protection every child deserves.

Sport In Action is proud to be part of the Women in Sport Conference taking place from 1–2 April in Lusaka under the theme “Accelerate Action: Scaling Up Gender Equality and Inclusion in Zambian Sport.”

The conference has brought together key stakeholders from across the sports sector, government, and civil society to drive meaningful conversations on gender equality and the empowerment of women in sport.

Tomorrow, April, 2nd 2026, our Executive director, Frankson Mushidu will be part of the plenary presenting on PROTECTION, SAFETY AND INCLUSION.

On 18 and 19 March, Sport In Action, in partnership with the Duke of Edinburgh International Award Zambia, conducted orientation training sessions in Kasama and Luwingu.

The training brought together teachers and staff from the Ministry of Youth, Sport and Arts Youth Resource Centre as part of an initiative aimed at working collaboratively with government to strengthen youth development opportunities through sport.

The sessions introduced participants to the Sport in Action Hubsite programme and explored how sport can be used to create safe, inclusive spaces where young people can learn, grow, and build life skills.

Participants were also introduced to the basics of netball, including rules, player positions, and the responsibilities of each role on the court.

The session concluded with a practical netball game that allowed participants to apply what they had learned, demonstrating how sport can be used to build skills and create engaging learning environments for young people.

Sport In Action extends appreciation to Volunteer Zambia Foundation for supporting the initiative and the resource centre with essential sports equipment, including netball goal posts, balls, and other key materials that will help sustain sporting activities for young people in the community.
