PRESIDENT Hakainde Hichilema has named and shamed four former UPND MPs Gary Nkombo, Elijah Muchima, Elias Mubanga and Newton Samakayi for “refusing” to vote for Bill 7. President Hichilema says he does not want such disloyal MPs and has urged citizens to vote for loyal UPND MPs who will work with him. President Hichilema further says if UPND supporters split votes because their preferred candidates were not picked on the party ticket, they would be creating space for those who brought problems to the country. Speaking when addressing supporters after his arrival in Solwezi at Solwezi Airport yesterday, President Hichilema urged citizens not to “defy” God by going backwards and entertaining the opposition, whom he said made life difficult in...

LUSAKA, Zambia – Zambian music artist Aqualaskin has shared an emotional message after performing as a special guest at an event attended by President Hakainde Hichilema, describing the moment as one of the biggest achievements of his career.
In a heartfelt social media post shared on Thursday, June 11, 2026, the popular musician revealed that despite having performed on numerous stages before, standing before the President, Vice President, and other national leaders left him feeling nervous and overwhelmed.
According to Aqualaskin, the experience became even more memorable when he saw the country’s top leadership singing and dancing along to a song he had written.
The artist said the moment felt unreal and represented a major milestone in his journey as an entertainer.
“Then the President hugged me. For a moment, I was just a young man standing in disbelief, remembering where I started and how far this journey has brought me,” he wrote.
Aqualaskin used the opportunity to encourage young people across Zambia not to give up on their dreams, regardless of the obstacles they may face.
The musician reflected on the criticism and doubts he had encountered throughout his career, noting that some people had previously questioned whether he was suitable for such high-profile occasions.
However, he said his appearance as a special guest performer before the Head of State demonstrated that hard work, faith, and consistency can open doors that once seemed impossible.
The artist emphasized that success does not happen overnight and encouraged aspiring musicians, entrepreneurs, and young professionals to continue believing in themselves even when their efforts go unnoticed.
He further described the experience as proof that dedication and perseverance can eventually lead to recognition and achievement.
Aqualaskin’s message has since attracted widespread attention on social media, with many fans congratulating him on the achievement and praising him for inspiring young people to remain focused on their goals.
The musician concluded by reminding his followers that their current circumstances do not define their future, saying that dreams can become reality through determination, patience, and faith.

Multitudes of citizens from across the Copperbelt this afternoon descended upon Kitwe’s KPF Grounds to witness the NRPUP campaign launch where the Tonse Alliance Presidential candidate Brian Mundubile promised to address their sufferings, restore hope and dignity after the August 13 elections.
Before speaking, Mundubile acknowledged the Lordship of Jesus Christ, knelt down and requested his running mate Makebi Zulu to pray for him.
The campaign remembered the unburied former six Republican President Dr. Edgar Chagwa Lungu by observing a moment of silence..
Mundubile later addressed the multitudes and started by praisimg the defence and security forces for their commendable commitment to serving Zambia on today’s defence forces day.
Mundubile promised hope to Jerabos, miners, retirees, marketeers, street vendors, civil servants and the youths. He assured them of addressing their hardships after change of government on August 13.
He reminded Zambians about the importance of freedoms, human rights. He accused the UPND of suppressing citizens through Cybercrimes laws.
He promised to review Cybercrime laws after August 13 and ensure that citizens can express themselves freely without fear.
To the small scale miners, Mundubile promised to hand back Senseli mine and all the mining dump sites where they were chased from, stressing that all mining dumpsites belongs to the Zambian youths.

SOLWEZI, Zambia – President Hakainde Hichilema has named Garry Nkombo, Elijah Muchima, Newton Samakayi, and Elias Mubanga as members of the United Party for National Development (UPND) whom he says voted against Bill 7.

The Head of State emphasized the importance of loyalty and unity within the ruling party, particularly among UPND members in North-Western Province.
President Hichilema urged party members to remain committed to the party’s agenda and support initiatives designed to improve the lives of Zambians and strengthen democratic governance.
The President is currently in North-Western Province, where he attended a church service at SDA Chawama and is expected to engage UPND party structures during his visit.

Breaking: UPND Kabwata cadres disrupt, harass Independent candidate Mainda Simataa’s door-to-door campaign team in Chilenje
Aspiring Kabwata Constituency Independent MP, Mainda Simataa this morning escaped unharmed after his door-to-door campaign was disrupted in Chilenje’s Timothy Mwanakatwe area, when hordes of UPND cadres illegally moved into his campaign zone, in direct violation of the ECZ campaign schedule.
This encroachment forced Hon. Mainda Simataa’s campaign team to quickly call-off the door-to-door campaign and whisk his candidate away to safety, as it was alleged that armed cadres patrolling in a UPND branded vehicle without a number plate, were looking for the Independent candidate, and were harassing his supporters to disclose his whereabouts.
Simataa’s campaign manager has disclosed that he quickly reported the matter to Chilenje Police who came on the scene, but did nothing to stop the cadres who were seen imbibing toxic alcoholic beverages while campaigning freely, in the company of the UPND aspiring candidate, Andrew Tayengwa.
The campaign manager has since called on ECZ to sanction the UPND and compensate his candidate with additional campaign days in Chilenje, and has called on police to act instantly and decisively, as the established process of writing complaint letters to the District Electoral Officer (Lusaka Town Clerk), before any action could be taken, was not good enough.

MUNDUBILE ADVISES ECZ TO STAY OUT OF POLITICS
Zambia’s incoming President, Brian Mundubile of the National Revolutionary People’s Unity Party (NRPUP) issued a pointed advisory to the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) regarding the proposed prohibition of the candle as a campaign symbol.
Featuring on KBN television, Mundubile said that candidates who have formally sworn-in using the candle as their electoral symbol commit to representing themselves with that emblem throughout the campaign.
From his perspective, once an oath is taken under a particular symbol, changing it mid-cycle undermines the candidate’s credibility, the electoral process and the rule of law.
Mundubile also raised a pragmatic question: if the ECZ illegally insists on banning the candle, should it not consider compensating those candidates who have already invested significant resources in advertising and promoting their symbols?
Intriguingly, Mundubile pointed out that his party, which uses a lamp as its symbol—a design distinct from the candle—has not lodged any complaints about potential confusion or infringement related to the candle symbol.
His observation calls into question the rationale behind the ECZ’s initiative to remove the candle, especially in the absence of genuine grievances from similarly affected parties such as the NRPUP.
Beyond the issue of symbols, Mundubile cautioned the ECZ against entangling itself in the political fray.
He insisted that the commission must “keep its lane” and refrain from engaging in political decision-making, reinforcing the principle that politics belongs to the politicians, not the regulatory bodies.
