A room full of young people talking about recycling, climate change and environmental responsibility?

That's OUR kind of energy!!!♻️

Over the past few days, we've been taking the Schools for Sustainable Change Recycling Challenge into schools across Lusaka ahead of World Environment Day.

What continues to encourage us is seeing how quickly learners connect the dots between the plastic bottle in their hands and the environment around them.

The future of environmental stewardship isn't somewhere ahead of us.

It's already sitting in our classrooms.

🌍 Inspired by Nature. For Climate. For Our Future.

🌿✨ 4 Years of Chilengedwe ✨🌿

Four years ago, Chilengedwe began with a simple but powerful vision: to inspire action for a cleaner, greener, and more sustainable Zambia. πŸ‡ΏπŸ‡²πŸ’š

Since then, we have engaged communities, partnered with schools, supported environmental campaigns, promoted sustainable tourism, championed climate education, and encouraged everyday actions that make a difference.

But more importantly, we have built a community of people who believe that protecting our environment is everyone's responsibility.

As we celebrate this milestone, we want to thank every volunteer, partner, supporter, follower, and community member who has been part of our journey. Together, we have planted seeds of change, and together, we will continue to grow.

🌍 We are Chilengedwe.
🌱 We believe in sustainability.
🀝 We believe in community.
πŸ’š We believe that small actions create lasting impact.

Here's to four years of purpose, progress, and protecting the environmentβ€”and to many more years ahead.

🌍 In the days leading up to the commemoration of World Environment Day 2026, Chilengedwe Zambia, together with MTN Zambia Foundation and NewTech Recycling, took the message of environmental stewardship directly into schools across Lusaka through our growing Sponsor A Cage Campaign.
Guided by this year's theme, "Inspired by Nature. For Climate. For Our Future.", we spent time engaging learners on recycling, responsible waste management and the role young people can play in creating cleaner and more sustainable communities.
Our journey took us to:
πŸ“ New Ngombe Primary School
πŸ“ Roma Girls Secondary School
πŸ“ Foxdale Secondary School
πŸ“ Olympia Park Secondary School
The energy was infectious.
The excitement was real.
The questions were endless.
And the commitment from learners to be part of the solution was inspiring.
Through environmental education sessions, recycling awareness activities and the installation of plastic collection cages, learners were challenged to see waste differently not as something to discard, but as a resource that can be recovered, recycled and put back into productive use.
While World Environment Day was commemorated on 5th June, the message remains the same: environmental stewardship is not confined to a single day on the calendar. It extends beyond World Environment Day and beyond the month of June.
The cages remain | The lessons remain | The responsibility remains.
And so does our commitment to nurturing a generation of environmentally conscious citizens.
A special acknowledgement to our friends at Lusaka City Council, whose continued work in managing waste across our city remains critical to creating cleaner and healthier communities for all.
To every learner, teacher, school administrator and partner who welcomed us into your schools, thank you.
Together, we continue to prove that sustainability is not simply a conversation. It is action.
Chilengedwe Zambia – Be the Change.

🌍🌿 Happy World Environment Day! 🌿🌍

This year's theme, "Inspired by Nature. For Climate. For Our Future," reminds us that some of the best solutions to climate change can be found in the natural world around us.

As Zambians, we are fortunate to be surrounded by incredible natural heritage. The responsibility now lies with us to protect it.

🌳 Plant a tree
πŸ—‘οΈ Dispose of waste responsibly
πŸ’§ Conserve water
♻️ Reduce, reuse, recycle
🌿 Support sustainable practices

Bane, the future we want starts with the actions we take today.

What is one thing you are doing to protect the environment this year? Tell us in the comments πŸ‘‡

πŸ•ŠοΈ A great tree has fallen.

The passing of His Royal Highness Nkhosi yama Nkhosi Paramount Chief Mphezeni marks the end of an extraordinary chapter in the history of the Ngoni people and our nation. Zambia has lost a revered traditional leader, custodian of culture, and unifying voice whose wisdom and influence reached far beyond the borders of his chiefdom.

For generations, Nkhosi yama Nkhosi stood as a symbol of identity, resilience, dignity, and service. Through his stewardship, the rich traditions and heritage of the Ngoni people continued to flourish, reminding us of the importance of knowing who we are, where we come from, and the values that bind us together.

This loss resonates deeply with us. The very name Chilengedwe, meaning nature or the environment in the Chewa language, reflects the rich cultural heritage of Eastern Zambia and the enduring values of stewardship, community, respect for the land, and responsibility to future generations. These are values that traditional leaders have safeguarded for centuries and which His Royal Highness embodied throughout his lifetime.

A noble son of the soil, a guardian of culture, and a humble servant of his people, Nkhosi yama Nkhosi leaves behind a legacy that will continue to inspire generations. His leadership reminds us that our traditional leaders are more than custodians of customs; they are custodians of identity, history, wisdom, and our collective future.

As we mourn his passing, we also celebrate a life dedicated to preserving culture, fostering unity, and advancing the welfare of his people. His leadership and wisdom extended far beyond his chiefdom, leaving an enduring legacy for Zambia.

Bayete! Bayete! Nkhosi yama Nkhosi.
Lala ngoxolo.
Siyabonga. Siyakukhumbula.
(Thank you. We will remember you.)

Sengathi umphefumulo wakho ungaphumula ngokuthula okuphakade.
Ukukhanya kwakho kuzoqhubeka kukhanyisa izizukulwane ezizayo.

(May your soul rest in eternal peace. Your light shall continue to guide generations.)

We extend our heartfelt condolences to the Ngoni Royal Establishment, the people of Eastern Province, the bereaved family, and all Zambians mourning this profound loss.

πŸ•ŠοΈ Rest Well, Your Royal Highness.
