Happy New Year to y’all 🙌
✳️Let's discuss Water Reclamation✳️
To define ‘water reclamation’ this is a system for waste water treatment that makes wastewater suitable for reuse ♻️. However, this process is some times referred to as water recycling or water reuse.
However, bringing it to our country Zambia 🇿🇲, Water reclamation can help the country at large to manage floods we experience, water crisis as well as improve agricultural productivity. Below are some of the benefits:
📶Environmental benefits
✅Reduces pollution: when rain water is harvested, and treated for further use, either domestic or industrial, it then reduces on the the amount of pollutants and contaminants e.g disease 🦠 causative agents like Vibrio cholerae that can cause Cholera outbreaks once it enters waterways and people end up consuming contaminated water 💧
It also reduces on the chances of contamination surface water sources like rives, swamps, like etc from chemical such as that from pesticides, metals as well fertilizers
✅Proteects groundwater: What reclamation also protects groundwater water from contamination in a sense that the body aquifers stand as backup when we talk of groundwater use
✅Reduces runoff: When rain water is harvested, it can be stored for multipurpose use which can reduce erosion and flooding
✅Sustains ecosystems: When there is collect and success water reclamation, water quality is well maintained and stream flow in rivers as well as creeks
✅Conserves freshwater: Water reclamation also reduces the amount of freshwater that is diverted from ecosystems
📶Economic benefits
✅Reduces water bills and Saves energy: Water reclamation bring more about economical growth when we talk of resources needed to pump and transport water
✅Increase in agricultural productivity: In terms of water crisis, waste water that was harvested and treated can then be used for agricultural purposes during irrigation projects that will improve the economical situation in terms of food production
✅Reduces the tariffs for treated municipal water
✅Reduces reliance on public water systems
📶Sustainable irrigation benefits
✅ It is suitable for irrigation because it's fluoride and chloramines free
✅Reduces reliance on treated water
✅Reduces soil salt buildup
✅It improves plant growth
📶Improved water security
✅Helps fight water scarcity, especially in drought-prone areas
✅Provides an emergency water supply in case of mains water shortages
📶All in all, natural resources management is very important in a sense that they can be short or long term sustainable, therefore, if we utilise water reclamation and rain water harvesting, as a country we cannot experience water crisis, waterborne diseases, water based and related illnesses or disasters etc.

✳️✳️What is Static electricity ⚡️?✳️✳️
The word *static* illustrates/describes any material or object holding a certain net of electrical charge either positive or negative, which slowly decrease over a period of
time and Static electricity is measured in volts.
✳️However, Static electricity causes safety problems in works places, productivity hence affecting work performance and quality.
✳️Static electricity in form of electrostatic attraction or repulsion, generates
dust contamination and product
misbehaviour. As an electrostatic
discharge it gives shock to operators, destroys electronic
components and starts fires 🔥
✳️scientifically speaking, the duration of static energy/electricity dependents on the resistance of the
material. For instance two extremes can be used to demonstrate between plastics and metal.
🅿️plastics generally have a very high resistance which allows them to maintain static charges for long periods of time.
Ⓜ️Metals have low resistances
and an earthed metal object will hold
its charge for an imperceptibly small
period of time.
✳️There are two main types of static
electricity:
✅Surface- surface static
electricity is only present on the very
outer surface of a material.
✅Volumetric- Volumetric static charges are charge imbalances within the body of a material
✳️Three (3) main causes of static
electricity:
✅Friction
As two materials are rubbed in contact with each other the electrons associated with the surface atoms on each material come into very close proximity with each
other which in this case is very easily
moved from one material to another.
The direction in which the electrons
travel either from Material A to
Material B or vice versa
✅Induction
During Induction, Static charges are generated when materials are in the presence of a very strong electric field. The surface of a material in close proximity to a high positive voltage will tend to become positively charged. For example an operator working near charged materials will become charged
and on touching an earthed object will
discharge to it, giving the operator an
electric shock which is mainly mistaken for a shock from the mains supply.
✅Separation
The method of charging by separation
is similar to that of friction where two
materials are in contact, the surface
electrons are in close proximity to
each other and upon separation have
a tendency to adhere to one material
or the other dependent upon their
relative positions on the Triboelectric
Series.
✳️Factors that Affect Static
✅Change In Temperature
✅Type Of Material
✅Electricity
✅Humidity
✅Repetition (friction)
✅Battery Effect
✳️How to prevent Start electricity❌:
✅Use Anti-Static Hand Lotion:
If you’re prone to dry skin, use an anti-static hand lotion to help prevent shocking yourself when you least expect it.
✅Wear Natural Fibres:
Clothes made from synthetics tend to pick up static charges more readily than natural fibers.
✅Go Barefoot
This is an old-way to prevent static shock though still effective way to reduce static buildup. However this is done through covering your shoes, socks or slippers with aluminum foil.
✅Use of Ant-Static Mats & Products
The use of mats, wristbands, heal straps and conductive shoes along with anti-static sprays that can remove static buildup while preventing accidental discharges of static electricity.
✅Humidify the Air
The drier the air, the greater the opportunity for static electrical build-up. Buying or adding to your supply of indoor plants is one way to promote greater indoor humidity.
Stay safe 🫡✅

Today’s Topic
🎲 Climate Change and Natural Disasters
📌Climate change has got something to do with long-term shifts or change in temperatures and weather patterns. Therefore, it is associated with both human kinds or activities and Natural disasters.
📌 what are the effects of climate change?
⚡️ Intense drought
⚡️Storms
⚡️Heat waves
⚡️Rising sea levels
⚡️Melting glaciers
⚡️Warming oceans
Climate change and it’s effects can directly or indirectly harm animals and destroy the places they live (ecosystem) and wreak havoc on people's livelihoods and communities.
climate change has got serious ramifications on both human health the ecosystem at large, along with the increase in natural disasters that has accompanied the shift in Earth’s climate.
📌The National Environmental Health Association lists climate change as the single biggest human health threat of the 21st century.
📌Climate change also disrupts the natural world in a number of ways that can impede health and increase vulnerability to diseases which can include the increase in the planet’s temperature and more frequent heavy rains and runoff which even destroys:
👉Crops and soil fertility affecting Agricultural activities
👉 buildings and paintings affecting peoples shelters
👉 Also various impacts which result in greater vulnerability to nervous and respiratory diseases, diarrhea, and more.
📌How do we fight Climate Change?
👉Avoid Deforestation and promote Afforestation
👉 Walk, cycle or take public transport to avoid depreciating the Ozone layer with greenhouse gases
👉 Make use of renewable energy
👉 Remember the 3 R’s Reduce, reuse, and recycle.
Etc…

Let’s Talk about
🎲Air Pollution 🙌
❇️Air Pollution is actually defined as the contamination of air due to the presence of substances in the atmosphere that are harmful to the health of humans and other living beings or that contamination which can cause damage to the climate or to materials and ecosystem at large.
📌Therefore There are a lot of theories about air pollution and it’s effects on humans as it results to be Public health concern, not only because of their role in Climate change but also because exposure to air pollution can catalyze the increase in morbidity and mortality.
📌When we the environmental scientists talk about air pollution, we are actually describing any solid or liquid particles, as well as gases, that are suspended in the air and are harmful or poisonous to the biodiversity. When we think about air pollution, we tend to think in terms of human-caused pollutants, and rightly so. Some of the most dangerous and ubiquitous examples of air pollution can include:
⚡️car and truck exhaust like Carbon monoxide
⚡️pollutants such as by-products of industrial processes like sulfur dioxide and carbon dioxide
⚡️Chlorofluorocarbons and Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons
⚡️Natural air pollutants such as pollen and mold spores which are often linked with asthma and allergies.
📌However according to the WHO, air pollution effects on humans are significant, meaning that they cause/lead a lot of different conditions and discomfort such as:
⚡️29% of all global deaths from lung disease
⚡️24% of all global deaths from stroke
⚡️17 % of all global deaths and disease from ⚡️acute lower respiratory infection
🔎More Resources About Air Pollution Effects on Humans
In the Field of Public Health/Environmental Health, we focus more on Prevention because we understand it better that it’s easier to control an endemic as compared to a pandemic!
✅Remember, in the world/generation of revolution and technology especially Industrial 🏭 development let’s make sure that we stick to sustainable development so that the other generation to come shouldn’t find this planet 🌍 a mess!

Today’s topic
🎲Chemical Safety
Chemicals have played a very vital role when we talk about farming, food additives and preservatives etc when used in the right amount proponent it’s intended use!
Therefore, there are a lot of chemicals in the universe which can impact human health in different ways and often, exposure to dangerous or foreign substances creates health vulnerabilities.
📌Chemical safety is a field which is concerned with minimizing the effects of both natural and synthetic chemicals. This field of study is more important to the field of Environmental Health because it seeks to safeguard human and environmental health from exposure to potential toxins and therefore, it focuses on chemicals that exist in the ambient world, as well as synthetic chemicals that are used in industrial processes or the by products of manufacturing activity.
📌Talking chemical safety is also important in an aspect of effluent discharge! So in order to manage the amount of chemicals added to our beautiful environment knowingly or unknowingly, effluents have to be treated before discharge
📌Public health officials who work in chemical safety often focus on toxicology, which is the study of substances that have a toxic effect on the human body, whether when ingested or when absorbed through natural surroundings. Another important aspect of public health is chemical risk assessment, which involves scientists and clinicians working to determine a substance’s full biological effects.
🔎According to the World Health Organization (WHO), more than 1.6 million deaths in 2016 were due to exposure to selected chemicals. Some examples of dangerous chemicals in the environment are heavy metals and toxins that find their way into the water supply and harmful pesticides that make their way into the food supply chain.
✂️prevention of an expected outcome is better that curing, treating and managing something that is controllable in the first place.
🔍Prevention is cheaper as compared to curing/treating 💊!
