BOZ WARNS OVER RISING BAD LOANS AMONG PUBLIC WORKERS
The Bank of Zambia has raised concern over the growing number of non-performing loans linked to public workers, warning that abuse of payroll-based lending arrangements could undermine financial stability. The central bank said some borrowers are obtaining credit outside payroll systems and exceeding approved borrowing limits.
BOZ noted cases of misrepresentation, non-disclosure of existing debts, and multiple borrowing across institutions, alongside weak lending practices by some financial institutions. It has directed lenders to strictly follow debt-service-ratio requirements and urged payroll administrators to strengthen controls and recovery mechanisms.

ZAMBIA'S EUROBOND BUYBACK BOOSTS INVESTOR CONFIDENCE
An economist says Zambiaโs successful tender offer for its restructured 2053 Eurobond, which secured 97.85% investor participation, reflects growing international confidence in the countryโs economic recovery and debt management efforts. Investors tendered notes worth US$1.335 billion, signalling strong support for Zambiaโs post-restructuring financial strategy.
Economist Kelvin Chisanga said the buyback will simplify Zambiaโs debt profile, reduce long-term risks and strengthen debt sustainability. Funded through a US$600 million African Development Bank loan and government resources, the initiative is expected to improve Zambiaโs reputation, support future market access and potentially lower borrowing costs.

SME TAX CUT TO 3% COULD BOOST LOCAL BUSINESS GROWTH, ECONOMIST SAYS
