A building acts as an enclosure for the activities that of within.
The building will protect the occupants, equipment or goods housed within from the weather effects(i.e rain, wind, sun etc) .
For the building to act as an enclosure, it must have external walls and be covered by a roof. The roof will normally rest on walls and be supported by them. The walls in turn, will need a firm base called Foundation to be built upon, which will transfer the weight of that of the roof and walls to the ground.
Doors will thus provide access to the building and to each room within the building.
Daylight and ventilation can be introduced into the building by provision of windows in the external walls and sometimes roof.
