TBZ Secures Market for Self-Sponsored To***co Growers

The To***co Board of Zambia -TBZ- has secured a buyer for to***co produced by self-sponsored growers.

TBZ Executive Director ROBERT MWALE says this has provided a significant boost to farmers who financed their own production during the 2025/2026 growing season.

Mr. MWALE says the development is expected to bring relief and renewed confidence to hundreds of growers who had expressed concerns about access to markets for their crop.

He says this also reinforces the Board’s commitment to ensuring that all marketable to***co produced in Zambia is linked to viable buyers.

Mr. MWALE says the Board remains committed to protecting the interests of growers and ensuring that no farmer was left behind.

“The To***co Board of Zambia places a high premium on ensuring that every to***co crop grown by our farmers finds a market. We understand the concerns that self-sponsored growers may have regarding the sale of their to***co, and we are pleased that a buyer has now been secured,” Mr. MWALE says.

“This development should assure growers that their hard work, dedication and investment will yield the expected returns.”

Mr. MWALE says the Board recognised the important contribution made by self-sponsored growers to the to***co industry and will continue creating an enabling environment for sustainable production and marketing.

He adds that TBZ’s role extends beyond regulation and include facilitating market access, promoting fair trade practices and supporting farmers to thrive in the sector.

“We therefore wish to assure all self-sponsored growers that they now have a market for their crop and should proceed with confidence,” he says.

Mr. MWALE has further disclosed that the Board is engaging local and international stakeholders to attract additional buyers and expand market opportunities for to***co growers across the country.

“While we are pleased to have secured a buyer for self-sponsored growers, our efforts do not end there. The Board is currently engaging prospective buyers and exploring new market opportunities to further strengthen competition and expand marketing options for growers,” Mr Mwale says.

He says the Board’s objective is to create a vibrant and sustainable to***co market that offers growers greater choice, improved opportunities and reliable access to markets for their produce.

The announcement comes as Zambia joins the rest of the world in commemorating World Environment Day, a global event focused on environmental stewardship and sustainable development.
