3 Nyimba pupils die in accident from school

WHAT began as a happy journey back home at the end of a rigourous three months of uninterrupted academic work has ended tragically for nine pupils of
Kacholola Boarding School in Nyimba District, three of whom have died in a road accident.

The group is said to have boarded a Toyota Corolla overloading it beyond its capacity as they headed to Nyimba Boma while others were destined for Petauke district from school.

The accident occurred after the driver of the ill-fated vehicle failed to negotiate a curve due to excessive speed.

This vehicle fell in a ditch at Mwengelele area on the Great East Road, claiming the lives of three pupils instantly.

Easten Province Police Commanding Officer, Robertson Mweemba who confirmed the incident to the media said the deceased sustained head injuries.

“Other pupils, including the driver sustained injuries and are admitted to Nyimba District hospital,” Mweemba said,

He has further appealed to teachers and parents to ensure they organize proper travel arrangements for pupils who are in boarding schools in order to avoid such accidents.
