ALL IS SET FOR PARAMOUNT CHIEF MPEZENI'S BURIAL SCHEDULED FOR TOMORROW.

All is set for the burial of the late Paramount Chief Mpezeni, who died on May 30, 2026, bringing to an end a 44-year reign that shaped the history and traditions of the Ngoni people.

‎The Ngoni Royal Establishment confirmed this to the media.

‎Chief Madzimawe has reiterated that strict cultural guidelines will be observed during the burial proceedings.

‎The traditional leader also announced that tree climbing will not be allowed during the burial ceremony, explaining that Ngoni culture forbids anyone from being positioned above dignitaries during such an important traditional event.

‎He further warned politicians against engaging in political activities at the funeral, emphasizing that no political gestures, slogans, or symbols will be permitted.

‎Gogo Madzimawe said the occasion is a sacred and solemn moment meant to honour the life and legacy of the late Paramount Chief Mpezeni and urged all mourners to conduct themselves in a respectful and orderly manner.

‎The burial is expected to attract thousands of people as the Ngoni people bid farewell to their traditional leader, whose leadership spanned more than four decades.

‎Meanwhile, Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development Permanent Secretary, Nicholas Phiri, said President Hakainde Hichilema will attend the burial of Paramount Chief Mpezeni.

Paramount Chief Mphezeni praised for development role and media support.

The late Ngwenyama Inkhosi yamakhosi has been praised for his contribution to development and cultural preservation in Eastern Province and Zambia at large.

Speaking during a courtesy message delivered at Ephendukeni Palace yesterday, Breeze FM Managing Director Michael Daka expressed gratitude for the warm reception he received when he first visited the palace in 2002, shortly after relocating from Lusaka to set up the radio station.

Mr. Daka said he was well received and appreciated the support given by the Ngwenyama, his subjects, and people across Eastern Province, which has enabled Breeze FM to effectively carry out its mandate over the years.

He noted that the radio station has now operated for 24 years, describing the milestone as significant in the station’s journey of service to the public.

Mr. Daka further thanked the traditional leadership for blessing not only Breeze FM but also government institutions, companies, and various organizations that have gone to work in the region.

He said the Paramount Chief Mphezeni has played a key role in helping the Ngoni people understand their culture and traditions, contributing to cultural preservation and identity.

Mr. Daka added that the traditional leader has left a positive legacy across Eastern Province and Zambia through his support for development initiatives that have improved livelihoods.

He concluded by expressing deep appreciation to the Ngwenyama Inkhosi yamakhosi for his leadership and service to the nation.

ZIMBABWEAN EMBASSY IN ZAMBIA MOURN THE LATE MPEZENI.

Zimbabwe has joined Zambia in mourning the death of Paramount Chief Mpezeni IV of the Ngoni people, who died on May 30, 2026 in Lusaka.

Speaking to the media after signing the book of condolences at Ephendukeni Palace yesterday, Zimbabwe's Ambassador to Zambia Charity Charamba said Zambia has lost a great leader who worked tirelessly to promote African culture in the region.

Ms. Charamba said the passing of Paramount Chief Mpezeni IV is a great loss not only to Zambia but to the region as a whole, adding that Zimbabwe stands in mourning with Zambia during this difficult period.

She described the late traditional leader as a champion of peace, unity, and love whose leadership brought people together.

Ms. Charamba noted that Paramount Chief Mpezeni IV opened his doors to everyone and played a key role in promoting the Ncwala Traditional Ceremony, which attracted people from different backgrounds and walks of life.

Meanwhile, Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development Permanent Secretary Nicholas Phiri revealed that 85 percent of works at the burial site have been completed, with only final touches remaining as of yesterday.

Mr. Phiri said the funeral proceedings have been characterized by peace and unity and urged people to continue demonstrating the same spirit as a way of honouring Paramount Chief Mpezeni IV.

He has since cautioned both public and private media organisations to exercise caution and avoid conducting interviews with individuals who are not designated to speak on behalf of the Ngoni Royal Establishment.

BURIAL PREPARATIONS FOR LATE PARAMOUNT CHIEF MPEZENI ADVANCE AT EPHENDUKENI PALACE.

Preparations for the burial site of the late Paramount Chief Mpezeni are progressing at Ephendukeni Palace as mourners continue gathering to pay their final respects to the revered traditional leader.

Chief Mnukwa has expressed gratitude to the government for according the late Paramount Chief Mpezeni an official funeral, describing the gesture as a sign of respect and recognition of the late traditional leader's contribution to the country.

Chief Mnukwa said the Ngoni Royal Establishment and the government are now working together to clear the site and dig the grave, a process that was underway as of yesterday.

He said the works are likely to be completed within one or two days.

Meanwhile, Chief Madzimawe has given an update on the burial arrangements, stating that the late Paramount Chief Mpezeni will be laid to rest next to Ephendukeni Palace in accordance with Ngoni traditions.

Chief Madzimawe explained that, according to tradition, Paramount Chief Mpezeni comes from a kraal and therefore must be buried within his cattle kraal.

PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES MOURN PARAMOUNT CHIEF MPEZENI.

Persons with disabilities in Chipata District have joined hundreds of mourners in paying their respects to the late Paramount Chief Mpezeni at Ephendukeni Palace, describing him as a leader who promoted unity and inclusion among people from all walks of life.

Leading a group of persons with disabilities in delivering messages of condolence, Provincial Coordinator for the Community-Based Inclusive Development Network, Machisa Zimba, said the disability community felt compelled to stand with the Ngoni Royal Establishment and the people of Eastern Province during this difficult period.

Mr. Zimba said the late Paramount Chief Mpezeni was a leader who valued every member of society, regardless of their background or physical condition.

He explained that the late traditional leader's style of leadership encouraged togetherness and created a sense of belonging among many people, including persons with disabilities.

Elizabeth Phiri and Wilfred Mwanza said they remember Paramount Chief Mpezeni as a leader who brought people together and expressed optimism that his successor would carry on his legacy and embrace every member of society.
