Four suspects arrested at Protea Hotel in Chipata over chawama political violence.
Four suspects wanted in connection with the recent political violence in Chawama, Lusaka, have been apprehended by the Zambia Police Service.
Police have identified the suspects as Ricky Chambawilo, 43, Thomas Mvula, 41, Peter Mwaba, 42, and Rickson Phiri, 46. All four are residents of Lusaka and had been on the police wanted list following the violence that occurred in the John Howard area of Chawama on June 5, 2026.
According to Zambia Police Service Public Relations Officer Godfrey Chilabi, the suspects are wanted for a number of offences, including aggravated robbery, malicious damage to property, assault, and unlawful wounding.
Mr. Chilabi said preliminary investigations indicate that the four suspects were part of a group involved in the political violence that erupted in the area.
The suspects were apprehended yesterday at Protea Hotel in Chipata, where they were among a group of individuals gathered outside the hotel.
The four remain in police custody and are awaiting formal charges as investigations continue.

HH Calls for Military Honours for Former President Edgar Lungu.

President Hakainde Hichilema has emphasized that Zambia's sixth Republican President, Edgar Lungu, should be accorded a burial with full military honours.
Speaking yesterday during the send-off ceremony of the late Paramount Chief Mpezeni IV, President Hichilema said all stakeholders must work together to ensure that former President Lungu is given a dignified and respectful burial befitting his status as a former Head of State.
The President stressed the importance of unity and cooperation during the mourning period, noting that honouring former national leaders is a responsibility that transcends political differences.
He said Zambia must remain united in paying tribute to leaders who have served the nation and contributed to its development.
