Something sweet! OCSA broke records as South Africa’s first private nursing institution accredited to offer an Occupational Health Diploma, and every year we have a full house. Our students are as committed as we are! Pinky Mkanya gave birth to her gorgeous baby girl just a day after writing her exams! Congratulations on quite a few levels!

We welcomed international students to our South African training facilities recently. It was great to host students from the DRC at the OCSA Academy of Excellence. Well done for successfully attending our pre-scheduled courses.

Women are very important in the healthcare and wellness industry and OCSA fully supports the 16 days of activism against gender violence. Physical, sexual, economic and psychological violence represents a violation of human dignity and human rights that can have long lasting consequences in the lives of women and their communities.

Africa Update!
Ghana and Zimbabwe are the destinations for two of our training facilitators in November. They will be running two full sets of courses on spirometry, audiometry and vision training. Our Academy of Learning is set to come to you wherever you are!

Student of the Year!
It was double smiles as two of OCSAs Academy of Learning students shared the prize for SASOHNs Student of the Year Award. This accolade gets awarded to an outstanding student who has completed the Diploma in Occupational Health Nursing with the highest final exam mark. In 2016, we are proud to say that both Dionette Smith and Caroline Dixon were chosen. Over the past 6 years, OCSAs Academy students have come out tops with an impressive total of 5 wins! Well done to the winner and to our awesome training team at the Academy.

Word up! November is National Disability Awareness Month – make sure you use words that don’t offend people with disabilities. For instance – referring to a deaf-mute person as ‘deaf & dumb’ is an outdated term. Don’t say AIDS ‘victim’ or ‘sufferer’ – rather speak of someone as a person living with HIV.
