Facebook, Twitter jump on Google glasses
FACEBOOK and Twitter have launched applications for Google glasses as developers rushed to learn more about tailoring software for the internet-linked eyewear yet to hit the market.
"Built by Facebook, this app allows you to upload photos from Google Glass directly to your Facebook timeline," Erick Tseng, head of mobile products at the social network, said in a message posted from the Google developers conference.
"You can also add an optional photo description, just by speaking it."
Tseng's page displayed an image evidently taken in a packed Glass session at the gathering and was tagged as the first public post to the social network using the application built for the eyewear. "Can't wait to start seeing Google Glass photos in my News Feed!" Tseng said.
Globally popular messaging service Twitter also introduced an application for Glass. Twitter for Google Glass let people share pictures or text messages using the glasses, according to engineering manager Shiv Ramamurthi.
Ramamurthi demonstrated his point by tweeting an image from one of the array of sessions devoted to providing developers with insights and tools for making software for Glass. He gave the picture the hashtag .
"In addition to sharing photos, you can also keep up with the people you follow on Twitter through notifications," Ramamurthi said. "As always, you can reply to, retweet or favourite these Tweets."
Several major news organisations have also tailored applications for Glass, which has only been made available to developers and a limited selection of "explorers" who paid $1,500 each for the eyewear. Google Glass was a common sight at the California-based internet giant's annual developers conference, which continues here through Friday. Software savants at the gathering shared visions of games, weather reports, news and more delivered to the internet-linked eyewear.
Many of the 6,000 developers attending an annual Google I/O event in San Francisco sported Glass in what was unofficially deemed the largest ever gathering of Glass wearers. Envisioned uses ranged from practical tasks such as shopping or delivering local weather reports to sharing real time video streams of riding cable cars or playing augmented reality games in which the world is the board. Glass lets wearers take pictures, record video, send messages, or perform other tasks with touch controls or by speaking "Okay Glass" followed by a command.
Glass connects to the internet using Wi-Fi hot spots or, more typically, by being wirelessly tethered to mobile phones. Pictures or video can be shared through the Google+ social network. Google co-founder and chief Larry Page depicted Glass as part of an ongoing effort to get computers "out of the way" so people can focus on lives enriched by what the internet has to offer. "We want to make sure we are building experiences that make people really happy," Page said while speaking about Glass.
"We are relying on you to make happy users," he told developers at the conference. "Ultimately, I think a lot of your experiences will move to Glass." Google executive chairman Eric Schmidt said recently that it will take "a while" before consumer versions of Glass are available.

'LEVITATION BIKE' LETS YOU CYCLE YOUR WAY TO A FULLY CHARGED PHONE
There are few things that will get people off their bums and out exercising beyond their own self loathing and vanity. And then there's the whole self-sabotage thing that happens when you hit a rough spot. And it's all downhill from there. Well now, finally, we might have a solution.
Introducing the "Levitation bicycle", a high-tech bicycle that charges your mobile phone and other devices on the go. This is a super smart concept. People will do anything to keep their smartphones charged and in range of a hot-spot. We saw what happened in the US after Hurricane Sandy: mobile adaptors appeared all over New York, hooked up to portable generators which were set up on every corner so that the people of New York could charge their phone batteries and get in touch with their loved ones to let them know they were OK. Since that time proper mobile charging stations have been created in order to anticipate future need.
So how great would it be if people were cycling for their health as well as their gadgets? The Levitation bicycle allows that time happen. And if that wasn't enough incentive to get pedalling, the Levitation bike is also equipped with wi-fi, making you a mobile hotspot wherever you go. The bike works by storing the energy created as you cycle in high capacity batteries which can then by plugged back into the grid later on. Designer Michael Strain told design website, Design Taxi that the benefits of the bike are "exponential, from less carbon emissions during commutes, to healthy living, to producing free zero-carbon energy.”
He said ne named the bike "Levitation" because you can live and ride without touching the Earth.Nifty name.Unfortunately the bike is still in concept stage and was invented for LG’s Hi Mac USA technology competition. However, people can vote to make it a reality.

THE LARGE HADRON COLLIDER
The Large Hadron Collider is the largest and most powerful particle accelerator ever built. It's designed to smash tiny particles into tinier ones to find out the stuff from which the universe is made. The European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN), the organization that built the collider, are optimistic that their experiments will help them find the elusive Higgs boson particle or evidence that string theory exists.

Critics, on the other hand, have filed suit to have the LHC deactivated. They fear that the LHC could create a black hole at the surface of the Earth, or create a weird -- and for now, hypothetical -- material called strangelets that cosmologists theorize could have a highly destructive gravitational field. CERN scientists reject both theories. Even if the collider could produce black holes or strangelets, they would decay too quickly to cause any harm.

SMARTPHONE FACE
Here's a possible new syndrome to add to the already existing extensive list of syndromes. This syndrome is caused by the advances in mobile phone and laptop technology and is called the 'smartphone face.'
Smartphone face is basically a description for a drooping jawline, double chins and lines at the angles of the mouth, which develop due to prolonged staring at a smartphone or a laptop. It was described by Dr. Mervyn Patterson in the London Evening Standard as "If you sit for hours with your head bent slightly forward, staring at your iPhone or laptop screen, you may shorten the neck muscles and increase the gravitational pull on the jowl area, leading to a drooping jawline."
There is still no adequate proof that this condition does exist. Perhaps awareness that it could occur could help regular users take adequate precautions to prevent the development of this condition. Cosmetic treatments like botox, face lifts and chin implants are available. In fact, the number of chin implants has been on the rise in the recent years. And they sure cost much more than your smartphone!
However, it is not necessary to chuck out your smartphone just yet! Firstly, further studies are required to prove that smartphones are actually associated with the condition. Secondly, technology is here to stay and better our lives. A restriction of the total amount of time spent in front of our phones or laptops will enable us to enjoy the technology without suffering from any possible complications. Maintaining a correct posture will also be beneficial. Thirdly, regular facials and toning exercises of the face could help to prevent the condition from developing.
What is probably necessary at this stage is to be aware that jaw drooping can occur with long-term use of laptops and smartphones. A judicious use of these technologies with adequate precautionary measures will go a long way in preventing this condition.
