Pleurisy Root • (Asclepias tuberosa)
Also called butterfly w**d or orange milkw**d; used traditionally
for pleurisy and typhoid fever; specific for the lungs and lung diseases;anti-inflammatory; thins mucus (expectorant), breaks feversby sweating (diaphoretic), calms spasms, relieves pain and
breathing difficulty; used for all situations of lung and chest
congestion: pleurisy, bronchitis, pneumonia, viral infections, coughs,cold, flu, lung tonic; used internally and with enemas and hot bathsto cleanse toxins and mucus from the body; other uses include colic,rheumatism, diarrhea, dysentery, indigestion; external use fowounds, warts, skin conditions, eczema, inflammations; has
estrogenic effects, can bring on late me**es, and may promote
abortion. Antispasmodic, diaphoretic, expectorant, tonic, antiinflammatory.Toxic in overdose; side effects include diarrhea,
nausea, vomiting, drowsiness, vision changes, irregular heartbeat,
rash. Do not use in pregnancy or with hormone-sensitive cancers or
conditions; not for those with weak pulse and cold skin, or those
taking hormones or heartbeat-regulating medications.
