North West Office of the Premier through its Youth Advocacy Coordination unit in collaboration with the SAYC NORTH WEST (South African Youth Council (SAYC)), National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) (NSFAS) and the National Youth Development Ageny (NYDA) recently visited local schools to support destitute matriculants. The schools visited included Tlhoafalo and Tirisano High Schools in Sannieshof, Tswaing Local Municipality, with 146 matriculants, and Lesedi Secondary School in Lebaleng, Maquassi Hills Local Municipality, with 103 matriculants. This was also part of NSFAS’ funding application roadshow which has an inclusion of more than 100 learners who benefited from the support.

SAYC NORTH WEST in collaboration with the Office of the Premier - North West Province and National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS), will be hosting an NSFAS Application Drive at Leruntse Lesedi High School in Makwassie Hills this Saturday, 15 November.

We encourage all high school learners in the Makwassie Hills Local Municipality to come in numbers and apply for financial aid to further their studies in 2026.

Impressive Profile of the MEC of Basic Education Viola Ntsetsao Motsumi.

MEC Ntsetsao Viola Motsumi is born and bred in Mahikeng and started her schooling at Stadt Primary School and proceeded to Mmabatho High School.
She (Motsumi) holds a Masters of Business Administration (MBA), honours degree in Bachelor in Microbiology from North West university and a Post Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) which through this PGCE taught Mathematics and Physics at her alma mater, Mmabatho High School.
After serving for seven years as a teacher, she joined private sector as project manager for North West Development Corporation.

Motsumi also served as a Parliamentary Liaison Officer for education at a time when the department merged with Department of Sports, Arts, and Culture (formerly known as North West Department of Education and Sport Development in 2017-2019. In the same year, she was subsequently sworn in as Member of North West Legislature and a Deputy Speaker for the North West Provincial Legislature, currently she is serving as the North West Education MEC today.

With her spirit of servitude to the people of North West, the department is undoubtedly proud to have its own.

The 2025 National Youth Day and Youth Month will be commemorated under the theme: “Skills for the changing world, empowering youth for meaningful economic participation.”

The North West Province will host the National Youth Day celebration this year, which will take place in Potchefstroom on 16 June 2025.

As a G20 member, South Africa is committed to shaping a youth that is globally competitive, digitally skilled, and socially conscious and responsible.

The Mahikeng Local Municipality is inviting 1,000 young individuals to apply for courses designed to enhance digital skills for the modern economy. These courses will be offered through the Mahikeng Digital Hub and the Cisco Country Digital Accelerator. The application closing date is July 30, 2025. Please follow the provided link to apply. Additionally, awareness sessions will be conducted, and the dates for the awareness sessions will be communicated to the applicants only.
