The Centre for Creative Arts at the University of KwaZulu-Natal invites South African slam poets to join Poetry Africa in a year of poetic encounters to mark the centenary of Nelson Mandela’s first year at school and to remind ourselves that education is power🎤📖

Nelson Mandela started his formal education in a one-roomed school in his village in Qunu in the Eastern Cape in January 1925. He grew up to become one of the greatest leaders of our century.

The Poetry Africa “Centenary of Mandela’s first year at school” project will comprise of a national and a regional KZN slam poetry competition🎤🔥🎉
