South African company takes home first prize at AVEVA World 2026 Specialist South African packaged wastewater treatment plant service provider Calcamite was crowned the winner of industrial software company AVEVA’s Sustainable Impact Award 2026.   The announcement was made on May 21, the final day of AVEVA World 2026, held in Milan, Italy.

This recognition, announced by AVEVA's Chief Sustainability Officer Lisa Wee, means the world to us. A heartfelt thank you to Sebasti Badenhorst and his incredible team for the opportunity to collaborate on a project that truly matters.

What an incredible moment at AVEVA World 2026!
Today, Wilhelm Swart from 4Sight and Sebasti Badenhorst from Calcamite took the stage to present "Building a Sustainable Water Future for Developing Nations" — and what a story they told.
Calcamite has been solving one of Africa's most critical challenges for over 40 years: delivering advanced, on-site, modular wastewater treatment to communities where traditional sewage infrastructure simply isn't viable. Remote. Overloaded. Underserved.

Now, powered by a cutting-edge digital ecosystem — AVEVA Connect, Schneider Electric hardware, Microsoft Azure & Copilot, and the engineering expertise of the 4Sight team — those small-scale plants are no longer isolated. They're connected, monitored in real time, and controlled remotely.

The results speak for themselves:
✅ 85% reduction in maintenance costs on the pilot plant
✅ 195m³/day of wastewater treated remotely
✅ 25,000km of travel eliminated
✅ 5 plants deployed in 5 months — and growing

And the best part? This is just the beginning of a scalable blueprint for water resilience across Africa.
