Yaseen Francis, Executive Director, Association of Construction Health and Safety Management (ACHASM) delivered a keynote address ‘Integrating Life Cycle Risk Management into Design’ to the City of Cape Town’s ‘Facilities Management: A Safer Future: Integrating Occupational Health and Safety (H&S) into the Built Environment’ event on 8 May 2026.

Yaseen addressed the following key areas: 1. How to use an operational H&S risk register for managing, mitigating, transferring, and documenting risks for facilities; 2. The contents of a handover operational H&S file for facilities; 3. The importance of human-centered design and sustainability within design processes, and 4. The role of digital asset management and Building Information Modelling (BIM).

Yaseen advocates the involvement of facility managers and operators during the design process, as their understanding of a building is key to a successful facility.
