Temporary ore stockpiling platforms require reliable containment systems that protect the environment while standing up to the demands of heavy aggregate placement and compaction.

As part of a composite lining system, Kaytech's EnviroFix® GCL provides secondary hydraulic containment beneath the HDPE geomembrane, while bidim® nonwoven geotextile helps protect the primary liner from puncture damage during installation and operation.

Key Benefits:
• Secondary containment with self-sealing protection
• Helps protect HDPE geomembranes from puncture damage
• Supports long-term environmental protection for temporary stockpiling applications

Wave action, tidal scour, and coastal erosion can threaten beachfront infrastructure and shoreline stability. Selecting the right protection system is essential for long-term coastal resilience.

Kaytech's EnviroRock® sand-filled geocontainers provide a flexible shoreline protection solution that uses locally available sand to create durable coastal structures capable of dissipating wave energy while adapting to natural beach conditions.

Key Benefits:
• Uses locally available sand as fill material
• Helps dissipate wave energy and reduce erosion
• Flexible protection that adapts to changing shoreline profiles

HDPE-lined return water dams require reliable liner protection, particularly where fluctuating water levels expose the liner to UV radiation and trapped air pockets can create stresses beneath the surface.

Kaytech's Multi-Cell® HD geocell system, used together with bidim® geotextile, provides durable liner protection while allowing secure installation on lined slopes. The system helps protect the HDPE liner during construction and supports long-term containment performance.

Key Benefits:
• Helps protect HDPE liners from UV exposure and mechanical damage
• Reduces the risk of liner damage during installation
• Stable protection for lined slopes

Our Technical Manager, Tyrone Naidoo, recently visited the University of the Witwatersrand, where he delivered Kaytech's "Introduction to Geosynthetics" lecture to Civil Engineering students.

At Kaytech, we value opportunities to engage with future engineers by sharing practical industry knowledge and demonstrating how geosynthetics are applied to solve real-world engineering challenges. It was encouraging to see such strong participation and engagement from the students throughout the session.

A sincere thank you to Dr Ganesh Rathod and the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering for the opportunity to contribute to the students' learning experience. We appreciate the warm welcome and look forward to strengthening the connection between academia and industry through continued collaboration.

Constructing modular block retaining walls over unstable soils presents serious structural risks, including uneven settlement and block displacement under lateral earth pressures.

Kaytech’s RockGrid® KX geogrids structurally increase the load-bearing capacity of the backfill. Its flexible, high-tenacity polyester structure ensures optimum interlocking with the soil, maintaining structural alignment for modular block facings.

- Eliminates the uneven block issues common with stiff extruded geogrids.

- Delivers high soil interaction and reliable low-creep performance.

Embankments surrounding culverts and channel alignments face severe erosion and heavy lateral earth pressures if left unprotected.

Kaytech's Kaybion® baskets deliver a high-performance, flexible gravity retaining system. Assembled from heavily galvanized, double-twisted wire mesh and filled with durable rock on site, this tiered configuration adds critical structural mass. The system remains fully permeable to ensure stable earth retention and efficient drainage throughout its service life.

Monolithic and flexible structure adapts seamlessly to changing ground contours.
Free-draining matrix minimises hydrostatic pressure build-up behind the wall.

Constructing traditional thick clay liners for containment barriers requires extensive on-site testing and leaves the system highly vulnerable to desiccation cracking.

Kaytech’s EnviroFix® Geosynthetic Clay Liners replace multi-layered clay installations with a single, factory-controlled composite layout. Combining natural sodium bentonite with needlepunched geotextiles, it maintains structural integrity and maximum sealing performance during the placement of the overbearing soil cover layer.

- Eliminates multi-lift compaction testing to keep projects on schedule.

- Offers excellent shear resistance to support backfill layers securely on slopes.

Subsurface voiding and sudden sinkhole development present significant structural risks to road networks and public safety.

Kaytech's RockGrid® PC composite geogrids address these subsurface hazards by providing high-strength basal reinforcement. Manufactured from high-tenacity polyester yarns bonded to a nonwoven geotextile, the composite spans potential voids and redistributes traffic loads more evenly. This dual-function design provides rapid tensile mobilisation while maintaining critical subgrade drainage to help protect transport infrastructure over vulnerable terrain.

-Bridges localised voids to help maintain pavement integrity and mitigate the risk of catastrophic collapse.
- Provides high tensile strength with low-strain mobilisation, while delivering reliable drainage and filtration functions.

Subsoil water accumulation compromises roads and foundations, causing premature pavement failure, erosion, and high maintenance costs.

Kaytech’s Megaflo® panel drainage system offers an advanced alternative to conventional aggregate drains. Featuring a high-strength, slotted drainage core wrapped in a filtration geotextile, it removes water up to twice as fast as traditional round pipes. This slim panel fits narrow trenches, minimizing excavation while maximizing drainage efficiency.

- Maximises water evacuation rates to maintain subgrade structural stability.

- Reduces trench excavation widths and backfill material requirements.
