Desert Rose is a musical duo based in Cape Town. Their lives are fueled by music, sound healing, sun, sea, silence, meditation and yoga.
Both Lynne and Yusuf developed a love of Sacred Music at a young age which grew through their respective disciplines. Desert Rose was found in 1999 by world music composer, Lynne Holmes. Together with her partner, Yusuf Ganief, they are regarded as leading composers, producers and performers of Universal Sacred World Music. SHULMA, meaning “peace,” is a transcendent musical offering composed and produced by Desert Rose, internationally acclaimed for their work in Sacred World Music. This evocative piece is sung in three sacred languages—Hindi, Aramaic, and Arabic—to celebrate the universal yearning for peace, love, and purity that lies at the heart of all spiritual traditions.
The lyrics gently affirm:
“I am a peaceful soul, I am a loving soul, I am a pure soul.”
These affirmations are followed by the powerful declaration:
“My religion is Peace, My religion is Love.”
SHULMA is more than a song—it is a prayer, a bridge between cultures, and a call for unity.
Founded in 2000, Desert Rose has become a global voice for peace, with 19 albums produced. From 2012 to 2019, the duo performed in over 20 countries, serving as ambassadors of peace and social harmony across continents and cultures.
Through SHULMA, Desert Rose continues their mission to inspire harmony, uplift consciousness, and offer healing through the universal language of music.
