Terracopta - Advanced Mapping

INFORMAL STRUCTURE MONITORING:
Another interesting drone mapping project recently involved Informal Structure Encroachment Monitoring in a
section of Kwanonqaba.

I've actually flown this same area before, but for a completely different purpose—mapping Illegal Electrical Connections.
Although the location was the same, the flight parameters were adjusted to suit the different objectives.

This project is a great example of how the same drone platform can be used for a variety of applications by
simply adapting the mission planning to capture the right data.

Dam Wall Safety Evaluation

The entire area of interest will be surveyed and modelled as a detailed point cloud. This approach will capture the complete dam wall and all visible surrounding features within a single, accurately referenced dataset, including areas of erosion, deformation, drainage features, and other surface conditions.

Additional observations and measurements will also be recorded using conventional survey techniques. These measurements can be used to produce a less data-intensive basic model where required.

Combining the detailed point-cloud model with conventional survey observations will provide the most complete and accurate representation of the dam wall and surrounding features for assessment, engineering design, and future monitoring purposes.
