SERVICE DELIVERY UPDATE

The Modimolle-Mookgophong Local Municipality is pleased to provide the following update on ongoing infrastructure maintenance and service delivery activities across the municipality. The patching of potholes on Van Ryneveld Street and Joe Slovo Street in Modimolle has been successfully completed, improving road safety and driving conditions for residents and motorists.
Stormwater management works and road marking activities are currently underway on Thembelihle Street in Mookgophong Township. These improvements are aimed at enhancing drainage systems, reducing flooding risks, and improving road user safety.
The maintenance of Joe Slovo Road is continuing as planned. The Vaalwater team remains on site and is making steady progress with the road maintenance works.
The Municipality's TLB (Tractor Loader Backhoe) was deployed to assist the Water and Sanitation section in carrying out essential service delivery operations.
The Municipality remains committed to maintaining and improving infrastructure throughout the municipal area and appreciates the cooperation and patience of residents while these works are being carried out.

MAYOR MBOWENI MONITORS PROGRESS ON R10 MILLION LANDFILL SITE PROJECT
Modimolle-Mookgophong Local Municipality Mayor, Cllr Anna Mboweni, accompanied by Speaker Sinah Langa, Chief Whip Mokgadi Dayimani, and Acting Municipal Manager Charles Malema, conducted an oversight visit to monitor progress on the municipality's landfill site project.
The R10 million project, which commenced in March 2026, is aimed at improving waste management infrastructure and ensuring compliance with environmental standards within the municipality.
During the site visit, the project team reported that construction has reached 42% completion. The project is anticipated to be completed by the end of August 2026.
Mayor Mboweni expressed satisfaction with the progress made thus far and emphasized the importance of completing the project within the stipulated timeframe and according to the required standards. She reiterated the municipality's commitment to improving service delivery and creating sustainable infrastructure that will benefit residents for years to come.

MAYOR ANNA MBOWENI ENGAGES ALMA RESIDENTS ON RELOCATION FROM FLOOD-PRONE AREA
The Mayor of Modimolle-Mookgophong Local Municipality, Anna Mboweni, today engaged residents of Alma regarding the municipality's plans to relocate households living within a flood-prone area following devastating floods experienced two months ago.Several families were left stranded after their homes were severely affected by flooding, highlighting the urgent need for a long-term solution to ensure the safety and wellbeing of affected residents.
Mayor Mboweni, accompanied by Speaker Sinah Langa and Chiefwhip Mokgadi Dayimani, assured community members that the municipality is actively exploring options to secure suitable alternative land for the relocation of households residing within the flooding zone.
Addressing residents, Mayor Mboweni emphasized that the municipality remains committed to finding a sustainable solution that will protect lives and property from future flood disasters.
As part of the visit, the Mayor also donated essential relief items to some of the residents who were affected by the floods, providing much-needed support to families still recovering from the disaster.The municipality will continue engaging with affected communities and relevant stakeholders to ensure that the relocation process is undertaken in a manner that prioritizes the dignity, safety, and wellbeing of residents.

Mayor Mboweni assures residents of continued road rehabilitation efforts.
Modimolle-Mookgophong Local Municipality Mayor, Cllr Anna Mboweni, has assured residents and motorists that the municipality's road rehabilitation and pothole patching programme remains on track and is progressing well.
As part of the municipality's Wednesday Service Delivery Programme, Thiba Mekoti, Mayor Mboweni monitored progress on ongoing road rehabilitation works in Extension 10, Modimolle. The programme is aimed at improving essential municipal infrastructure, including roads, water, sewer, and electricity services across communities within the municipality.
The Mayor expressed satisfaction with the progress made and reaffirmed the municipality's commitment to providing quality infrastructure and improving service delivery for residents.
To strengthen its road maintenance capacity, the municipality has recently acquired yellow fleet machinery, which plays a significant role in enhancing road conditions and accelerating infrastructure maintenance projects throughout the municipality.
The municipality remains committed to ensuring safer and more accessible roads while continuing to invest in infrastructure development that improves the quality of life for all residents.

Modimolle-Mookgophong Local Municipality Mayor, Cllr Anna Mboweni, has called on residents to support one another during times of bereavement and hardship.
Mayor Mboweni addressed mourners at the funeral service of Ms Linah Masubelele in Mookgophong Extension 1, Ward 10 (Drie One). The Mayor intervened to assist the bereaved Masubelele family following the passing of their loved one, Ms Masubelele, who passed away last Thursday.
The family was forced to postpone the burial due to financial difficulties and challenges arising from the late Ms Masubelele not having an identity document, which complicated the administrative processes required to facilitate the funeral arrangements.
In response to the family's situation, Mayor Mboweni provided support to help facilitate the burial arrangements and donated food parcels to the family during her visit.
Speaking at the funeral service, Mayor Mboweni urged community members to stand together and support bereaved families to ensure that their loved ones receive a dignified send-off.
She also emphasised the importance of joining burial societies and obtaining funeral policies, noting that such measures can help families manage funeral expenses and arrangements during difficult times.
