How often should you really bathe your dog? The honest answer? It depends.
Here are a things to take into consideration when deciding how often to bath your pooch:
Coat:
🐾Smooth/short coats (like Jack Russells, Boxers): Every 8-12 weeks. They don’t trap much dirt, so less is more.
🐾 Double coats (like Huskies, Golden Retrievers): Every 6-10 weeks. Over-bathing can mess with their natural insulation. Focus on regular brushing instead.
🐾 Long/silky coats (like Yorkies, Shih Tzus): Every 4-6 weeks. These coats tangle easily and trap dirt faster.
🐾 Curly/wire coats (like Poodles, Schnauzers): Every 4-6 weeks. Their dense curls hold onto dirt and moisture, so regular baths are key.
Season:
☀️Summer: Every 4-6 weeks. More if they’re swimming, rolling in mud, or just living their best outdoor life.
❄️Winter: Every 6-8 weeks. Their skin is drier in winter, so stretching baths helps protect natural oils. Detangling spray and spot cleaning are your winter best friends.
Lifestyle:
🏠 Indoor couch potato: Every 8-12 weeks is plenty.
🏡 Outdoor adventurer: Every 4-6 weeks, plus paw wipes and between-bath freshening.
💦 Swimmer: Rinse with fresh water after every swim, but only shampoo every 4-6 weeks to avoid drying out their coat.
The golden rule: Bathe them when they need it, not on a rigid calendar. A gentle, pH-balanced shampoo (like ours!) makes frequent bathing safer because it won’t strip their natural oils.
