V. SAMMY'S BUILDINGS 1906

Further to our recent images relating to the Sammy family, this photograph, circa 1950s-1960s, features what was originally built by V Sammy, a Fruiterer, 1906, situated at the corner of what were then Jones and Sidney Streets. It was occupied by Sammy from 1906 until about 1924.

Later the building was the premises of WG White, a chemist and at the time this picture was taken it was (as it remains to this day) the Richmond Pharmacy. Sidney Street remains Sidney Street, but Jones Street is now Phakamile Mabija Road.
