The Walker Bay Watch l Citizen Science Project, brought to you by the South African Shark Conservancy (SASC), aims to promote citizen involvement in the collection & collation of marine ecology data from Walker Bay, South Africa. Citizen Science projects include: shore-based cetacean & marine mammal monitoring, seabird surveys, marine debris surveys, and our scuba diver shark sightings surveys. To
get involved, partake in training or submit any interesting data, use our The Walker Bay Watch l Citizen Science Project group page https://www.facebook.com/groups/1396332137277442/. To participate in our Sharks Count project, please follow these steps:
3. Fill out the Diver Form after your dive while it is still fresh in your mind.
4. Send SASC your shark data by going to our Walker Bay Watch l Sharks Count page (www.facebook.com/SASCSharksCount). To input your shark data: click on the “Sharks Count” tab – fill in the 10 questions (please enter individual sharks one at a time) - click “Done.”
To enter data for another shark, reload the page to reset the data form. Once all shark data is entered, return to the Walker Bay Watch l Sharks Count page to upload your photos. Please note: when you click “Done”, your information has been sent to our database, even though the page doesn't change.
5. Post your photos on the page wall. Make sure that the photos are labeled with the species name, date, location, and observer name. Example: DarkShyshark_21/1/2014_OldHarbour_JSmith.
