🇿🇦 Have you caught the latest BizNews interview with Solidarity CEO Dr Dirk Hermann? It's a must-watch for anyone concerned about the future of the South African economy.
Sitting down with Alec Hogg, Dr Hermann discussed why both ordinary citizens and international investors (like Pretoria-born Elon Musk) are rejecting the current BEE framework.
Here are the numbers that matter:
According to Solidarity’s research, BEE currently costs South Africa between 2% and 4% of GDP. That equates to about 180,000 jobs lost every year. Instead of uplifting the broader society, the current structure too often serves as a vehicle for elite enrichment and corruption.
The good news? There is a better way. Dr Hermann advocates for "input-based empowerment"—focusing on fixing dysfunctional schools, creating jobs, and building grassroots infrastructure. Recent data shows that 75% of South Africans agree that education and job creation are the best ways to address inequality!
Solidarity is already proving this model works. They’ve launched a job platform where 4,000 companies have advertised 14,000 jobs completely free of race criteria.
Let’s start empowering communities, not elites. What are your thoughts on shifting away from race-based quotas toward grassroots development?

If you’re feeling despondent about South Africa’s place on the global stage right now, today’s episode of Boardroom Talk is a must-listen. 🌍🎙️
Alec Hogg unpacks President Cyril Ramaphosa’s decision to send Roelf Meyer to Washington as SA's new ambassador. While it’s easy to look at the headlines and criticize the appointment of the 78-year-old veteran, applying a bit of "second-level thinking" reveals why this is actually a brilliant, pragmatic move.
Meyer’s presence in the US completely disarms the toxic political narratives that have poisoned our relationship with Washington. It is a clear message that South Africa wants to save our vital AGOA trade lines and that, finally, the adults are back in the room. 🇿🇦🇺🇸
This is a moment for rational optimists to celebrate.

While the world has been captivated by the celebrity-funded rise of Wrexham, a South African hedge fund manager has been quietly writing an even more impossible football fairytale. Clive Nates, leading a consortium of South African investors, has just engineered Lincoln City’s historic promotion to the English Championship—a tier the club hasn't reached in 65 years and on a budget the fraction of Wrexham's and indeed 16 of Lincoln's League One competitors. Defying massive 1,000-to-1 odds, Nates and his fellow enthusiasts applied "Moneyball" analytics and pure passion to outsmart the giants. Next season, this underdog squad will face off against massive English clubs, proving that South African grit and data-driven strategy can conquer the beautiful game. Even in its heartland.
