Once upon a time there was a little girl...

At first glance, 'Double-By' with her red cape reminds of the innocent character of Little Red Riding Hood. However, Wolf’s tail and legs protruding from the cape, uncomfortably hints at a split in the identity of this character. The fusing of the two characters is a way of addressing the blurred boundary between the victim- and perpetrator-self.

The dolos design is based on the "dubbeltjie" or devil's thorn, it was created by South African draughtsman and inventor Aubrey Kruger.
The name was birthed in a precious moment between Aubrey Kruger and his father, Joseph Kruger. After seeing his son and others playing with small models in the office, he asked
"Wat speel julle met die dolos?"
Dolos is the Afrikaans word for knucklebones which are often used by sangomas when listening to their ancestors.

Echoes from the Edge- an public sculpture exhibition .- curated by .odendaal . This year , ten women artists presented work inspired by theme of mythology, memory, and transformation.
The exhibitions title suggests both call of sirens from the sea and the echoes of the past traces of history, personal reflection, and cycle of return. Though sculpture, installation, and mixed media, these artists respond to the environment in ways that are both thought-provoking and visually striking.
From bold , large scale pieces that interact with the natural elements, to more intimate works that invite quite contemplation, Echoes from the Edge encourages visitors to explore the coastline in a way. Whether encountering a piece nestled in the dunes or standing against the open horizon, you will find moments of connection between art, place, and story.
