Our convenient location in the historic heart of Hermanus above the Old Harbour is in close proximity to all the major tourist attractions and accommodation establishments. In fact, some of the old fisherman’s cottages still stand on our piazza today and though declared heritage sites, the original brickwork and walls are now home to cozy and intimate restaurants that are a must visit for that special candlelight occasion. One of our biggest attractions is the open-air piazza with its outside tables and colourful umbrellas. The piazza provides an ideal meeting place for young and old who love the feel and enjoy the view. In front of the piazza is the open-air auditorium with a children's play area. This area is also the focal point for whale watching and many a festival or special event. Another attraction is the double-volume arcade that runs through the Village Square. This light and airy space is always alive with shoppers who are attracted to the eclectic mix of retail and gourmet offerings. Fashion boutiques, novelty, apparel, sport, curio, gifts, wine, art, cellular, jewellery and home decor shops line the well-lit interior of the centre. Each shop has its own unique character and offers speciality goods, unlike anything that can be found in commercial shops with mass-produced merchandise elsewhere in Hermanus. The gastronomic offerings are equally varied, with coffee shops, cafés, eateries and bars serving drinks & cocktails, breakfasts.light lunches and dinners. The Village Square has the largest concentrations of restaurants in Hermanus. Over 12 establishments, with some of the town’s most popular chefs, are serving up excellent cuisine from dusk till dawn, accompanied by an extensive wine list that features many of the region’s premium award-winning wines. Whether it’s a thin-based Italian pizza, scrumptious seafood dish or authentic South African meal or fine dining cuisine you’re after, patrons can take their pick from the various establishments situated both inside Village Square and outside on the Waterfront Piazza. When the weather is fine, you will even be able to spot the famous southern right whales that visit the bay between June and December, either from the piazza below or from one of the upstairs restaurants where extensive glass windows offer panoramic views over Walker Bay. The centre is open seven days a week and trading hours are from Monday to Saturday 09:00 to 17:00, and Sundays from 10:00 to 15:00. The restaurants open earlier for breakfast and stay open until later in the evening.
