🏛️ 𝙇𝙊𝘾𝘼𝙇𝙎, 𝙒𝙃𝙀𝙉 𝙇𝘼𝙎𝙏 𝘿𝙄𝘿 𝙔𝙊𝙐 𝙑𝙄𝙎𝙄𝙏 𝙊𝙐𝙍 𝙈𝙐𝙎𝙀𝙐𝙈𝙎 & 𝙈𝙊𝙉𝙐𝙈𝙀𝙉𝙏𝙎?

We often encourage visitors to explore the history and heritage of Graaff-Reinet - but how often do we, as locals, take the time to do the same?
Graaff-Reinet has an incredible collection of museums, historic buildings and monuments, each telling a different part of the story of our town and the people who shaped it.

Spend a morning rediscovering Reinet House, the Old Residency, Urquhart House, the Military History Museum or the Old Library Museum, where you can learn more about everything from early Graaff-Reinet life to military history and the fossils of the Karoo. Our art heritage is also represented at the Hester Rupert Art Museum and Jan Rupert Art Centre.

Then look a little closer at the monuments we sometimes drive or walk past without a second thought. The Anglo-Boer War Memorial, Camdeboo Heroes Monument, San and Khoi Genocide Memorial, War Memorial in Angel Park, Gideon Scheepers Memorial, Die Kruithuis and Union Monument on Magazine Hill all represent different chapters of our shared history.
Our heritage isn't only something for tourists to discover. It belongs to the people who live here too.

So here’s our challenge to Graaff-Reinet locals: choose a museum or monument you haven’t visited in years - or perhaps have never visited - and go and explore it. Take the children, invite a friend and learn something new about the place we call home.

This Women’s Month, we celebrate the women who walk into the homes of our community every day, bringing care, comfort and dignity to patients and their families.

Our carers are specially trained in palliative care, but they bring something more — compassion, kindness and a heart that cares. Along the way, they also help provide essential items that can make a patient’s day a little more comfortable.
