Adv.

Adv. Gert van Niekerk speaks in this video about what he describes as the VF Plusโs important role in negotiations concerning the future protection of the Garden Route Dam and the sensitive natural environment surrounding this important water source.
According to Van Niekerk, the VF Plus strongly opposed proposed development near the dam and instead advocated through negotiations for an alternative approach.
He explains that this approach includes, among other things, a conservation buffer, the rehabilitation of natural fynbos, the planting of indigenous trees, the removal of invasive vegetation through job-creation programmes, and the restoration of the area as a natural habitat.
Van Niekerk also explains how, under the proposal, limited development elsewhere could be used to help finance the cost of conserving and rehabilitating the dam area.
