Many foodies might know Matt Preston, Australian food critic and long-time MasterChef Australia presenter. In one of his article's of Taste Magazine (Australia) he tells a story about Warthog Sharpeners:
โI have a slightly worrisome obsession with knife-sharpening. It all started at my English grandmotherโs. She had a strangely marked slab of stone mounted outside the yellow and split stable-door to her kitchen where a wood-fired stove burned.
It was six inches thick and large enough to lay a side of beef on. It seemed to have magical properties when you sharpened knives on it โ something that some of the older folk in the village put down to the fact the stone was originally a pagan altar.
Since then Iโve tried any number of whetstones and grinders, sharpening gadgets and gizmos. None, bar maybe my favourite whetstone, has been as good as my latest find โ the Warthog V-Sharp Classic II sharpener from South Africa.โ

Warthog Blade Sharpeners was started with the simple aim of creating a better knife sharpener. We wanted to give people the ability to sharpen their knives to a professional level without having to send them to an expert. We began operating in 1999 and have been manufacturing and exporting our patented high quality diamond knife sharpeners for more than 10 years.
Sharpening a blade correctly, in a way that preserves the knife for years to come is a skill that has largely remained with expert craftsmen. It is from the expert knowledge of these craftsmen that Warthog has based the design of its patented sharpeners. Most home systems use a clamping device to hold the blade to maintain a constant angle. But this is unwieldy and time consuming.
