George's first gourmet boerewors mobile restaurant opening soon!

The perfect boerewors roll is a thing of beauty. That irresistible savoury smell that somehow travels great distances; the piping hot wors, juices soaking into a white roll; sweet caramelised onions; and a squirt of tomato sauce… the boerewors roll still holds a special place in our hearts.

BOEREWORS WITH TOMATO RELISH AND CHEESE

Always a winner at every braai! Boerewors with a proper relish! Serve with grated cheddar cheese on top!

INGREDIENTS (SERVES 6)

1 packet Boerewors
1 tot olive oil
1 onion (chopped)
1 red pepper (seeds removed and cut into strips)
2 garlic cloves (chopped and crushed)
1 chilli (chopped)
1 tin/sachet (50g) tomato paste
1 tin chopped tomatoes
1 tot paprika
1 tot apricot jam
salt and pepper (to taste)
6 hot dog rolls
120g Cheddar cheese (grated)

METHOD

Heat the oil in your fireproof pan or potjie and fry the onion and pepper until soft

Add the garlic, chilli and paprika and fry for another minute.

Add the tomato paste, chopped tomatoes and apricot jam and mix everything well and let it simmer over medium heat.
Season with salt and pepper and let it simmer for 15 minutes until the relish thickens.

While the relish is simmering, braai the boerewors over hot coals for 8 -10 minutes until cooked. It should be charred on the outside, but still succulent on the inside.
When the boerewors is ready, take it off the fire, cut into pieces and place onto a roll. Pour relish sauce over the boerewors and top with grated cheese. Serve immediately

Inperking: 9 dinge wat jy móét weet

Pres. Cyril Ramaphosa het Suid-Afrikaners Sondagaand toegespreek oor die dramatiese styging in die aantal Covid-19-gevalle en -sterftes in die land, en die enorme druk op die gesondheidstelsel. Hier is ’n opsomming van hoe sy aankondigings jou raak.

1. Suid-Afrika keer nié terug na vlak 4 of 5 nie
Ramaphosa sê gegewe dat die infeksiekoers tans baie hoog is, het die nasionale bevelsraad oorweeg of die land of dele van die land moet terugkeer na strenger vlakke van inperking. Daar is egter geen sekerheid dat dit wel sal help om die piek te vertraag nie.

Die hele land bly dus op vlak 3, maar Ramaphosa sê wetstoepassing gaan strenger wees. Mense móét maskers dra of minstens hul gesig met ’n T-hemp of ander materiaal bedek.

2. Verbod op drankverkope weer ingestel
Daar is slegte nuus as jy die naweek jou drankvoorraad opgedrink het: Alle drankverkope word weer verbied, met onmiddellike effek.

Suid-Afrikaners kon sedert 1 Junie drank koop, weliswaar net Maandae tot Donderdag van 09:00 tot 17:00. Drankwinkels sal egter nie Maandag heropen nie.

Dis omdat daar duidelike bewys is dat drankverkope tot geweld en ongelukke lei wat hospitale se noodeenhede besig hou, sê Ramaphosa. Dít terwyl mense met Covid-19 plek-plek weggewys moet word weens ’n gebrek aan plek.

3. Bly saans tuis!
’n Aandklokreël word heringestel. Niemand behalwe werkers in noodsaaklike bedrywe na of op pad van die werk af mag ná 21:00 saans of voor 04:00 soggens op straat wees nie.

Die vorige aandklokreël, wat in Junie op vlak 3 geskrap is, het van 20:00 tot 05:00 gegeld.

Die aandklokreël geld vanaf 21:00 op Maandag 13 Julie.

4. Taxi’s mag nou 100% vol wees
Langafstand-taxi’s mag nie meer as 70% vol wees nie, maar taxi’s wat kort afstande ry, mag weer 100% vol wees, op voorwaarde dat almal maskers dra, vensters oop is en voertuie ontsmet word.

5. Verbod op sigaretverkope sleep voort
Die verbod op sigaretverkope, wat reeds sedert 27 Maart geld toe die land 108 dae gelede ingeperk is, duur voort. Ramaphosa het nie eens daarna verwys nis.

6. Besoeke aan familielede, vriende bly verbode
Ramaphosa het gesê in die lig van die vinnige verspreiding moet sosiale bedrywighede steeds beperk word. Hy sê hy besef dit plaas enorme emosionele druk op mense, veral dié met bejaarde ouers. Hy sê dit bly egter nodig ten einde die verspreiding van die virus te beperk.

7. Parke maak weer oop
Ramaphosa het aangekondig parke maak weer oop “vir oefening, nie samekomste nie”.

8. Veilings mag weer gehou word
Alle veilings mag weer gehou word, mits reëls oor ontsmetting, maskers en distansiëring gehandhaaf word.

9. Ramptoestand bly in plek
Ramaphosa het die nasionale ramptoestand tot 15 Augustus verleng.
