Create. Johannesburg-born, Durban-based multidisciplinary artist Jackson completed a Diploma in Fine Arts from Rhodes University in 2011. After a stint working with interior designers and architects, she started a pop-up shop, META, selling handmade jewelry and clothing. A move to Durban and the closing of her shop in 2019 paved the way for Jackson to produce art again. She was selected as a top ten finalist in the MTN & UJ Emerging Artist Programme and won first prize in the New Now Next Emerging Artist Awards hosted by Galerie Noko. She is due to embark upon a two-month residency in Gqeberha in September 2021, which precedes a group exhibition. Jackson is a multidisciplinary abstract artist, whose work is process-driven and detail-oriented. With visual interests invested in texture and exploring the limitations of mediums, resulting in complex abstract works building depth through line, shape and colour, Jackson aims to deal with human connection, society highlighted by the pandemic, social-scapes and insignificant moments. She investigates time as a non-linear concept, using art as a mode of ‘time travel’, through repetition which features heavily in her work in the construction of larger sculptural – and other – works from smaller bodies. Using traditionally ‘feminine’ materials in a masculine manner, or vice-versa, she plays with subversion of gender roles in a balancing act of androgyny.

🌷🌸🌹🌺🌻 What a beautiful morning of creativity! 🌻🌺🌹🌸🌷
This past Saturday, our Material Matters: Air-Dry Clay Flower Workshop brought together a wonderful group of makers who spent the morning slowing down, creating, laughing, and discovering the beauty of handmade flowers.
From the very first petals to the final arrangements, it was incredible to watch everyone's confidence grow as each unique bloom came to life. No two flowers were the same—and that's exactly what made them so special. 🪷🤍
A huge thank you to everyone who joined us, shared your creativity, and made the workshop such a memorable experience. Your enthusiasm and willingness to embrace the process is what makes these workshops so rewarding.
Swipe through to see some of the beautiful moments from the day. 📸✨
If you missed this one, don't worry—there are many more creative experiences coming soon. Keep an eye on our page for upcoming Material Matters workshops and Breakfast Club gatherings.
Because at The Process Studio 🎨, we believe that the process is just as important as the finished piece.

Being a teacher certainly has its perks, and the school holidays are definitely one of them.
After a challenging second term, it's time to slow down, reflect, and recharge. It's time to dust off the sketchbook, breathe deeply, and notice the things that often go unseen in the busyness of everyday life.
Over the past few days, I've been practising the art of truly seeing—looking to nature as my greatest teacher. Studying the lines carved into weathered rock, the patterns hidden in tree bark, the balance of the landscape, and the quiet harmony woven through it all. These observations have found their way onto the pages of my sketchbook, reminding me that creativity begins with paying attention.
Wishing all the incredible art teachers out there a restful holiday. May you find time to refill your creative cup, seek inspiration, and simply enjoy the process. 🎨🌿✨

Learn how to make an Exploding Book! 📖✨
Fold, glue, and assemble a series of simple paper squares to create a book that expands when opened. This fun and easy project transforms ordinary paper into an interactive handmade journal, sketchbook, or keepsake. Perfect for creatives of all ages—just fold, connect, and watch it come to life! 👩🎨
How to Make an Exploding (Squash) Book
1) Fold each square sheet of paper in half horizontally and vertically, then unfold.
2) Fold the paper diagonally both ways and unfold again.
3) Bring the folds together so the paper collapses into a smaller square triangle shape.
4) Repeat with all the paper squares.
5) Glue the folded sections together, attaching one side of each section to the next to create a chain.
6) Cut two pieces of card slightly larger than the folded pages for the front and back covers.
7) Glue the first and last folded sections to the card covers.
Attach a ribbon between the cover and pages if desired.
Allow the glue to dry before opening.
When opened, the book expands and unfolds to reveal multiple connected pages, creating a surprising "exploding" effect.
