WATER SUPPLY RESTRICTIONS FROM DURBAN HEIGHTS TREATMENT WORKS

Residents and businesses are informed of water supply restrictions from the Durban Heights Treatment Works.

This is due to essential work being conducted by Umgeni Water to remove corroded chlorine booster pipes at the plant.

While this repair work is underway, the plant inflow will be reduced to 200ML/day for a duration of 12 hours.

Umgeni Water will have enough storage prior to the shutdown commencement at Durban Heights. EThekwini Municipality will have their distribution reservoir filled up as well.

The work will begin this morning, 8 June 2023. Umgeni Water anticipates that this work will be concluded by 6pm on the same day.

System recovery will occur thereafter.

Residents are requested to use water sparingly to prevent reservoirs from running dry as water will not be available during the duration of the shutdown.

According to reports on the 05/06/2023 at approximately 12:00, an elderly female, who was approximately 60 years old, was taken to the Phoenix Plaza by her son, who planned to do some shopping. The son assured his mother that he would return within 30 minutes, leaving her in the care of the crowded plaza.

The son got a call from a white male stating he is with the mum and for the son to come immediately.

Unfortunately, during this time that the son was waiting for her to complete her shopping she was being watched by criminal sydicates. The unsuspecting elderly lady was robbed of her cellphone, jewelry, and money by an unknown amount of assailants. To make matters worse, she was abducted and taken to the Glenhill squatter camps, a known area of crime and danger.

This incident is shocking, as it is a reminder that no one is immune to crime and that extra precautions must be taken to ensure the safety of all members of society, particularly the vulnerable elderly population.

It is crucial for people to remain vigilant when out in public spaces and to keep an open eye of their surroundings at all times.

This incident is alarming and raises concern about the safety of vulnerable members of our society.

A 36-year-old man was arrested today, after he accidentally shot and killed his 7-month-old son with a pellet rifle at their home in Maololo, GaMashabela village under Masemola policing area.

Police attended to the complaint after the child's parents rushed him to the local clinic where he was certified dead on arrival, after he suffered a gunshot to the chest.

Both parents were interviewed and it was revealed that the child's father was hunting for birds with a pellet rifle next to their home when the child was accidentally shot. The suspect was arrested and charged with murder and police have confiscated the pellet rifle.
