🧠Why do some autistic children prefer standing instead of sitting during learning activities?
What may look like a refusal to sit is often a child meeting an important sensory, movement, or regulation need. For many autistic children, standing can improve focus, increase alertness, support body awareness and make learning more comfortable.
The goal isn't simply sitting at a table—it's meaningful participation, engagement and learning.
Every child learns differently and understanding the reason behind a behaviour helps us create more supportive and inclusive learning environments. 💙

Understanding autism starts with understanding the child behind the behaviour. 💛
This insightful post by Aikoandegor is a gentle reminder that children aren’t trying to give us a hard time — often, they’re having a hard time themselves. The more we learn about sensory needs, communication differences, routines and emotional regulation, the better we can support them with patience, empathy and connection.
