One of the biggest marketing mistakes I see is confusing "good design" with "effective creative."
They're not always the same thing.
The best creative doesn't just look good.
It communicates quickly.
It captures attention.
It creates curiosity.
It makes people feel something.
We've all seen ads that look amazing...
but tell us nothing.
And we've all seen simple ads that perform exceptionally well.
Because effective marketing isn't judged by how it looks.
It's judged by what it achieves.
Sometimes the goal of creative isn't to impress people.
It's to get remembered.
And remembered brands get chosen.
Would you rather have an award-winning ad or a high-performing one?

Creative is more than just making things look good. It’s what helps your brand get noticed, remembered and trusted.
With digital platforms becoming smarter at finding the right audiences, the real challenge is creating something that makes people stop scrolling and pay attention.
From strong visuals and clear messaging to authentic storytelling, creative plays a key role in turning attention into meaningful brand connections.
In our latest newsletter, we explore why creative matters more than ever in digital marketing and how businesses can create content that is worth noticing.

What makes you stop and pay attention to a brand online?
16/09/2026
Someone visits your website.
Then leaves.
No enquiry. No sale.
Most businesses assume they've lost that customer.
But often, they're just not ready yet.
That's why marketing isn't only about generating leads today.
It's about staying visible until the timing is right.
Keep showing up. Keep sharing value. Keep building trust.
Because when a customer is finally ready to buy, they rarely choose the brand they saw once.
They choose the brand they remember.
And remembered brands get chosen.
Have you ever bought from a company months after first discovering them? What made you come back?
09/09/2026
And that's okay.
We sometimes forget how much happens between:
“I've never heard of this company.”
and
“I'm ready to buy.”
A customer might see your social post today.
Ignore it.
See another one next week.
Visit your website.
Leave.
See your ad three weeks later.
Read a review.
Ask a friend.
Follow you.
And then, eventually, decide they're ready.
That's why I think good marketing needs to do more than sell.
It needs to build familiarity.
It needs to answer questions.
It needs to demonstrate expertise.
It needs to create trust.
And it needs to stay relevant until the customer is ready.
Not every post needs to generate a lead.
Not every ad needs to generate an immediate sale.
Sometimes the job of marketing is simply to make sure that when the customer is finally ready…
they remember you.
That's not wasted marketing.
That's the customer journey.
What brands do you remember long before you were actually ready to buy from them?

Your content doesn’t need to go viral. It needs to work.
Likes, views, and shares are great, but they don’t always tell the full story.
Effective content should have a purpose. It should educate, build trust, communicate value, start conversations, and ultimately contribute to your wider business goals.
Before creating your next post, ask yourself: What is this content supposed to achieve?
Move beyond posting for visibility. Start creating content with intention.

We've all heard it.
And sometimes it's absolutely true.
Not every business has a large marketing budget—and not every business needs one.
But there's an interesting distinction between having a small budget and having no marketing strategy.
A smaller budget simply means you have to be more intentional about where you put your resources.
You might not be able to:
→ Be everywhere
→ Run five campaigns at once
→ Produce content every day
→ Target every audience
→ Test every idea
And that's okay.
The answer isn't necessarily to do more. It can be to do less, better.
Choose the audience that matters most.
Choose the channels that make sense.
Create content around the questions your customers are actually asking.
Put paid budget behind the things that demonstrate potential.
And measure what actually contributes to the business.
Sometimes the biggest marketing mistake isn't spending too little.
It's spreading too little budget across too many things.
If you had to cut your marketing activity in half tomorrow, what would you keep?

This is probably going to become an increasingly unpopular opinion in marketing…
I'm a big believer in using AI.
It can help us brainstorm faster, research ideas, analyse information, create variations and get from a blank page to a first draft much quicker.
But there's a difference between using AI as a marketing tool and allowing AI to become your marketing strategy.
Because AI doesn't automatically know:
Who your customer really is.
What your brand should stand for.
What your competitors aren't saying.
What your audience is tired of hearing.
What makes your business different.
Or what your customers actually need to hear from you.
The technology can help you produce more. But producing more content isn't necessarily the goal.
Producing better, more relevant content is.
Perhaps the question businesses should be asking isn't:
“How can AI create more content for us?”
Maybe it's:
“How can we use AI to make our marketing team more strategic?”
That's where I think the really interesting opportunity is.
How are you currently using AI in your marketing?

Your customers don’t experience your social media, paid ads and website as separate channels, they experience one brand.
A connected digital strategy ensures every touchpoint works together to build awareness, trust, and ultimately drive action.

It's one of the first things we hear when talking about social media.
But sometimes, more followers isn't actually the problem.
We've seen businesses with relatively small audiences generate far more meaningful business results than accounts with thousands of followers.
Why?
Because reach isn't the same as relevance.
I'd rather have 1,000 people who genuinely fit my target market than 10,000 people who will never buy, enquire or recommend my business.
This is why I think businesses should look beyond:
→ Follower count
→ Likes
→ Impressions
…and start asking:
Are we reaching the right people?
Are they engaging with what we're saying?
Are they remembering us?
Are they taking the next step?
Social media metrics aren't bad. But not every metric deserves the same amount of attention.
Sometimes the goal isn't to get a bigger audience.
It's to build a better one.
