⚠️ One place your CT coil should NOT be...

The CT coil might be a small component, but where it's installed can completely change how your inverter interprets power flow.

Looking at this installation, the CT placement suggests one of two things:

πŸ”Ή The CT coil has been installed in the wrong location.

OR

πŸ”Ή The entire house is running through the backup side of the system, meaning there are no dedicated non-essential circuits.

Why does that matter?

The CT coil is the inverter's eyes on the grid. If it's in the wrong place, the inverter can make decisions based on incorrect information.

And if the entire house is on backup?

🏠 Your geyser may be running through the inverter.
🏠 High-consumption appliances could be drawing from the battery bank.
🏠 Battery runtime could be significantly reduced.

The CT coil may be one of the smallest parts of a solar installation, but it has a huge impact on how the system performs.

πŸ’¬ Do you know where the CT coil is installed on your system?

β˜€οΈ Fun Fact: Did you know the Sun produces more energy in a single hour than humanity uses in an entire year?

Think about that for a moment. 🀯

Every day, an incredible amount of energy reaches the Earth completely free of charge. The challenge isn't creating the energy β€” it's capturing and storing it effectively.

That's exactly why solar technology has advanced so rapidly over the last few years:
πŸ”‹ Better batteries
⚑ Smarter inverters
β˜€οΈ More efficient solar panels

The future of energy isn't about finding more power. It's about making better use of the power that's already available to us every single day.

Maybe it's time to let your roof start working for you. 😎

β˜€οΈ Cape Town doesn’t wait for subsidies… and neither does its solar adoption.

Ever wondered why Europe has so much solar despite having less sunshine than South Africa?

The answer is simple: incentives.

Across many European countries, governments have spent years encouraging solar adoption through tax benefits, rebates, and feed-in tariffs that make renewable energy an easy financial decision.

But here in Cape Town (and South Africa in general), we’ve taken a different path.

⚑ We don’t rely on subsidies to go solar β€” we rely on necessity, awareness, and smart economics.

For many households and businesses, the shift to solar started because of one key reality:

πŸ”‹ Energy security matters
⚑ Grid instability is real
πŸ“ˆ Electricity costs keep rising

And the result is powerful:

βœ… Lower long-term energy costs
βœ… Independence from the grid
βœ… Protection against tariff increases
βœ… A cleaner, more resilient energy future

Cape Town has some of the best solar conditions in the world. We don’t need incentives to justify solar β€” we can see the value every day on our roofs.

If you haven’t made the switch yet, now is a good time to explore your options.

⚑ Why now might be the best time to invest in solar β€” even in winter.

A lot of people look at winter and think:

"Maybe I should wait until summer before installing solar."

At first glance, that seems logical. After all, winter yields are lower, and money sitting in the bank is earning interest.

But here's what many people aren't considering...

πŸ“ˆ Hardware prices.

With ongoing uncertainty in the Middle East and pressure on global supply chains, solar hardware prices are showing signs of increasing. The reality is that the money you're earning in interest could easily be offset by higher equipment costs in a few months' time.

And then there's this:

πŸ”‹ The sooner you install, the sooner you start reducing your electricity costs.
β˜€οΈ Your system is already up and running when the high-production summer months arrive.
πŸ“Š You avoid the risk of paying more for the same equipment later.

Solar is a long-term investment. Waiting a few months may feel like you're saving money, but if hardware prices rise, you could end up spending more while delaying the benefits.

That's why, even in winter, now can still be the right time to invest.

πŸ’¬ Are you waiting for summer before going solar, or would you rather lock in today's pricing?

⚑ Quick Solar Tip: How do two inverters work together?

Ever looked at a system with two inverters and wondered how they communicate without fighting each other? πŸ€”

The answer is actually pretty simple.

πŸ”Ή One inverter is configured as the Master
πŸ”Ή The second inverter is configured as the Slave

The master inverter is in charge of system decisions, while the slave follows the instructions from the master to ensure both units work together as a single system.

In the settings you'll find:

βœ… Parallel mode enabled
βœ… Modbus communication enabled
βœ… Each inverter assigned its own unique address

For example:

πŸ”§ Inverter 1
β€’ Master = Enabled
β€’ Modbus Address = 1
β€’ Phase = A

πŸ”§ Inverter 2
β€’ Slave = Enabled
β€’ Modbus Address = 2
β€’ Phase = A

Think of it like a team. The master is the captain calling the plays, and the slave inverter works alongside it to increase the total power available to the system.

This is how we can put two single-phase inverters in parallel and have them operate seamlessly as one larger system. πŸ”‹β˜€οΈ

πŸ’¬ Did you know you could combine multiple inverters like this?

⚑ The best backup system is the one you don't even notice working.

Atlantic Beach has had its fair share of grid continuity challenges, with ongoing maintenance and outages affecting residents from time to time.

This client experienced exactly that.

Just a few days after we completed their solar and battery installation, the power went out in the area...

But they didn't even realise it. 😎

The only reason they knew there was an outage was because their neighbours were discussing it on the local WhatsApp group.

No rushing to find torches.
No interruption to daily life.
No sitting in the dark wondering when the power will come back.

Just seamless power, exactly as it should be. πŸ”‹β˜€οΈ

That's the real value of a properly designed solar and battery system. It's not just about saving on your electricity billβ€”it's about having the confidence that your home keeps running when the grid doesn't.

πŸ’¬ Have you ever only found out about a power outage because someone else told you?

⚑ PART 3: 5kW inverter – What does it really mean?

So this little bad boy is a 5 kilowatt inverter.

What does that actually mean? πŸ‘‡
It means the maximum continuous power output it can deliver is 5kW at any given time.

But here’s where it gets interesting… πŸ”§

β˜€οΈ PV oversizing is allowed
On this type of system, you can typically install up to around 6.5kW of solar panels on a 5kW inverter.

Why? Because the system is designed to manage it intelligently.

⚑ Current (amps) vs voltage
There are two key limits to understand:

πŸ”Ή Voltage limit = IMPORTANT
This is the hard limit of what the inverter can safely accept. If you exceed it, the system will not operate correctly.

πŸ”Ή Current (amps) = managed internally
The inverter will β€œclip” or limit current draw to protect itself, so it naturally manages this side of the equation.

πŸ“Œ What this means in real life
You can design a slightly larger solar array for better production during:
β€’ Early mornings
β€’ Cloudy days
β€’ Winter performance

But it must ALWAYS stay within voltage limits.

⚠️ This is where good system design matters β€” not just installing panels, but designing correctly for performance and safety.

πŸ’¬ That wraps up PART 3 of our inverter breakdown series.

If you want more real-world breakdowns like this, let us know what system we should open up next. πŸ”§βš‘
