An Ocean initiative that focuses on reimagining healthy oceans through upskilling and education Ocean Pledge is all about the power of the individual.

We believe that like drops in the ocean, if every person commits to one single action toward ocean preservation, then collectively we have the power to create the groundswell of change that the ocean so desperately needs. At Ocean Pledge, we believe in collaboration and our ocean-inspired projects aim to nurture motivation for positive change that comes from deep within.

Sharing a community dinner, we were reminded by the head of , Ann Lamont, that we are not just custodians of any place- we are custodians of the Oceans at the Southern Tip of Africa- a home to magnificent species diversity, the great African Kelp Forest, and the great mother who caters to so many of our needs ranging from food, to transport, climate, recreation, religion and spiritualism. We have so much to be grateful to her for. Yet, her waters are changing; her chemical balance is out of sync; species are no longer as they once were. Now, more than ever before, we need to change our narrative of the ocean as the absorber of all our sins; we need to welcome indigenous knowledge of the past if we are to move harmoniously into the future; realising that we are not separate from the ocean, but part of the same, living, breathing entity as she. Now is the time in which all voices must be heard; we are all stakeholders in the health of our planet and the ocean resources and it is only in the coming together of all sectors of society that we will be able to reimagine a future in which our ocean can hold the regenerative power to create a health, prosperous future for us all.

Today we had the privilege of listening to the team from presenting their research and insights on various business-related objectives. One aspect concerned Funding opportunities; another centred around Effective Communication ; and lastly, the all important aspect of Impact Reporting. We were impressed with the level of professionalism, purpose, and passion underpinning their work and we so look forward to another round next year 🙌🏽

Our were invited to partake in the this past Saturday. Their role was to raise awareness around ocean health among the youth and for this came up a solid agenda, filled with a myriad of fun interactive ways in which to do this: from a three-legged race showing how hard it is for penguins to get to their food when the oceans are compromised by plastics and over fishing; to a beach clean up; signing ‘s; ocean inspired sandcastle building; to and Vanessa Nyathi for using their voices to create change in front of an entire audience. We are proud of our mentors and our newer ambassadors and the magical team they formed. Thank you for the brilliant footage

Yay to the first activation for 2026. Our last year graduates and ambassadors, .a_micaela and Adrienne, organised and implemented an environmental awareness day at Happy Tots, in Grassy Park, to a school of 3-4 year olds, who were delighted to meet us. Appealing to a group as young as these meant that activities need to be interactive, engaging and not too long. So, we enthralled the kids with somatic kelp-forest movements, hand painted signing, and read them a story about the plastic sea-monster from the . We left with paint on our clothes, our hands and faces, but hearts coloured with joy at having spent such a delightful morning with these youngsters who all pinkie-promised to pick up plastic wherever they see it. Job Done!
and the Plum foundation,

As our program is about our youth, we dedicated a creative kick-off workshop to hear what our ambassadors wish to learn more about and what kinds of community-based projects they wish to drive during 2026.
Ideas were flowing like the ocean: From initiating an club at school; to starting a tik-tok account; raising funds; going global; and of course, raising awareness among corporates as well as communities. The students were excited about getting involved with the for this year’s and wanted to collect used towels as their driver for the up and coming . Standing on the brink of post-school employment opportunities, the students are keen to learn about successful interviews, the job application process; as well as understanding the scope of study options and bursaries available in the marine space. They are beyond eager to learn about visual story-telling from South Africa’s best, like . And to team up with to strengthen their own personal stories within community narratives
We are brimming with excitement to see what this year has in store. With our first activation already set for next week Tuesday, it’s bound to be a cracker of a year. Watch this space…
We are truly honoured to have , the Plum Foundation along with and by our side again this year.

came to with a speech impediment and without ever having made contact with the ocean. Living in the coastal city does not mean that everyone has equal access to the beach. So we worked with Luzuko, encouraging self expression, teaching the basics of public speaking through our modules, and we took Luzuko to the beach. This moment captured his heart so much that at his final speech , his excitement was so palpable he moved us all to tears. The ocean heals, it encourages, it changes lives. Thanks to and for supporting
