Michael William Bass was born on the 2 of February 1945. He attended Wynberg Boys High School in the Cape and later Stellenbosch University where he received his Agricultural Technology Diploma. After a short travelling stint abroad Mike returned to open his first business, The Western Province Riding School in Muizenberg, it was here that Mike's love and passion for horses developed. We will miss you Trevor Taylor :

Long time assistant and right-hand man to Mike Bass , Trevor Taylor passed away on Friday afternoon after fighting a short but brave battle with Cancer.

Trevor joined Mike Bass at his original Milnerton Sungari Lodge stables in 1982 as his assistant trainer, which was to culminate In a 44 year long partnership together.

Trevor was never one for the lime light, but was an extremely hard working and dedicated horseman and was pivotal in the stables success through the decades. He was exceptional in heading up groom and stable management and was a vital and trusty cog in the Bass racing operation.

His dedication and loyalty to Mike and Candice for over 4 decades was unwavering and will always be cherished and never forgotten.

“He was part of the family” said Mike “This is one of the saddest days of my life “

Trevor was a true character in every sense of the word.
He was a “one of a kind” and extremely knowledgable on an array of life topics. Music , sport , history and racing being his favourite passions . Trevor always had many tales to tell at the track to anyone that crossed his path and was willing to listen.

He was widely respected throughout the industry and by his long term peers and former work colleagues who grew up with him in racing.

It with tremendous sadness that we say our final goodbye to a man that was so dedicated to our family and racing interests.

Our hearts and souls go out to his wife Lutzy, brothers Clive and Basil , daughter Shontell, and his three grandchildren Declan, Juliet and Kristen, as well as his all extended family.

Never forgotten!May his dear soul rest in peace.
