There are over 40 million girls affected by period poverty that makes them miss or dropout of school because they don't have the means to manage their period hygienically and with dignity.

Period poverty affects roughly 42million children in Sub Saharan Africa simply because they don't have the funds to buy feminine hygiene products.

This is Intlanganiso secondary school in Khayelithesha. Established in the 1980s the school is home to about 1500 students. This is where Cowrie Shell will set up its first pilot

With the majority of the African population under the age of 40, period poverty is a human rights issue, not just a women's health issue.
