Sixteen years ago, South Africa walked out at Soccer City and made the whole world stand still. A nation hosted the planet. Siphiwe Tshabalala buried that left-footed strike into the top corner and for one breathless moment, Africa owned football.
The opponent that day? Mexico. The result? 1-1.
Today, the fixture repeats itself — except this time it's Mexico's turn to be the host, welcoming Bafana Bafana to the iconic Estadio Azteca (Al Jazeera) in Mexico City. The same two teams. The same opening slot. Everything else is different.
