South Africa became a democracy on 27 April 1994 and over the past 32 years the country has made strong progress in building a united and inclusive nation. This journey is something we can all be proud of.
Although our democracy is still young, South Africa has earned respect around the world, reflecting the strength of our freedom and our contribution to humanity.
Today, the Sisterhood Advocates celebrated Freedom Month by hosting a meaningful debate. The session gave young women a platform to discuss important issues like democracy, active citizenship, and the rule of law.
The participants showed confidence, critical thinking, and a clear understanding of their responsibilities as citizens. Through respectful and engaging discussions, they explored both the strengths and challenges of our democracy.
The debate helped strengthen their voices and highlighted the importance of participation, accountability, and unity in building a better South Africa. It reminded us that democracy grows when people are informed, involved and committed to positive change.

On 15 April, we successfully held a peaceful march together with the Dihlabeng Local Municipality, bringing together 120 participants alongside various stakeholders to raise awareness on Gender-Based Violence (GBV).
The march served as a powerful reminder of the importance of collective action in building safer communities. Through unity, voices were raised against GBV, and a strong message was sent that violence has no place in our society.
We extend our sincere appreciation to all participants, partners, and stakeholders who joined and supported this important initiative. Together, we continue to advocate for safety, dignity, and respect for all.
