3. Master the "Zones" of Your Desk

Treat your desk like a cockpit by organizing it into reach-based zones.
* Immediate Zone: Keep only what you use daily (keyboard, mouse, phone) within an arm's length.
* Secondary Zone: Place items you use weekly (reference books, staplers) further away so they don't clutter your primary work area.
* Digital First: Transition as many physical documents as possible to digital storage to reclaim up to 70%of your desk surface.

2. Optimize Lighting and Visuals

Lighting is the number one attribute employees look for in a workspace.
* Prioritize Natural Light: Position your desk perpendicular to a window to maximize daylight while minimizing screen glare. Natural light is proven to reduce eye strain by 51% and headaches by 63%.
* Layer Your Light: Combine overhead "ambient" lighting with a desk lamp for "task" lighting. For focus, use cool white tones (3000K–4000K); for a calmer evening atmosphere, switch to warmer tones.

1. Perfect Your Ergonomics

The foundation of a good office is how it supports your body during long hours.
* Monitor Height: Place the top of your screen at or slightly below eye level. This prevents "laptop neck" and spinal strain.
* The 90-Degree Rule: Adjust your chair so your elbows, hips, and knees are all at roughly 90-degree angles. Your feet should rest flat on the floor; if they don't, use a sturdy footrest.
* Support Your Back: Use a chair with lumbar support that follows the natural curve of your lower back. If your current chair lacks this, a rolled-up towel or small cushion can work as a temporary fix.
