Hoje, a arte encontrou a escola.

Recebi com muita alegria a Dra. Lina, a Coordenadora geral portuguesa do Projeto CAFE de Timor-Leste, o Professor Paulo e os alunos do CAFE de Los-Palos para uma visita à exposição “The Things We Do Not Say — As Coisas que Não Dizemos”

Entre perguntas, olhares e palavras, também aprendi. Porque a arte não termina naquilo que o artista diz — começa também naquilo que o outro vê, sente e questiona.

Partilhar arte com os jovens, através do diálogo e da língua portuguesa, é também construir pontes em Timor-Leste.

It was a great joy to welcome Dr. Lina, the Portuguese General Coordinator of the CAFE Project in Timor-Leste, Professor Paulo, and the students of CAFE Los-Palos to visit the exhibition “The Things We Do Not Say — As Coisas que Não Dizemos”

Between questions, gazes, and words, I also learned. Because art does not end with what the artist says — it also begins with what others see, feel, and question.

To share art with young people, through dialogue and the Portuguese language, is also a way of building bridges in Timor-Leste.

Metal engravings, woodcuts, drawings and watercolours made in Brazil during the four years I lived there. Some works hold memories of lived experiences; others were created during the pandemic, while some came from dreams.

They are fragments of a time, places, feelings and experiences that still remain with me.

Beautiful memories that continue to live within me.

Cesar Soares Lourdes is one of Timor-Leste's leading contemporary visual artists and a long-standing champion of community-based arts education. With over two decades of creative practice, his work reflects a deep engagement with Timorese culture, folklore, and social history, blending traditional symbolism with a modern aesthetic that is both evocative and accessible.

He will have his Art Exhibition Opening, Konfuzaun, on Sept 19th at Arte Luron Galeria.
