$5 helps someone get a state ID.
$5 helps someone show up to a job interview.
$5 helps a child hear, "Dad's picking you up from school today."

When incarcerated fathers come home from prison, DCJ helps them rebuild. That small boost is sometimes the difference between staying out or going back in.

Small gifts create transformation. Big or small, every dollar helps another family stay together. Give $5 (or more) today: dcjustice.org/105years

Newark marks Memorial Day with ceremony, parade 05/18/2026

Sunday I attended the Annual Memorial Day Wreath Laying Ceremony. It's always an emotional ceremony.

It’s a day dedicated to honoring the selflessness of the men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to the nation. It’s about holding space for their families and ensuring that their stories, bravery, and dedication are never forgotten. 🇺🇸

Newark marks Memorial Day with ceremony, parade Newark honored the nation’s fallen service members Sunday during the city’s annual Memorial Day commemoration. The two-part event began with a ceremony in front of the University of Delaware’s Memorial

Friday I attended the 10th Annual Problem Gambling Awareness Conference, hosted by the Delaware Council on Gambling Problems. This year the focus was shining a light on the often-overlooked individuals impacted by gambling—the spouses, parents, siblings, and children whose lives have been quietly upended.

We heard directly from loved ones who have lived through the reality of gambling harm and how these families navigated the storm and found a meaningful path forward.

Lot of tough conversation to hear and I thank them for their openness to share.

Thank you to the 2026 Delaware Teacher Pathways Conference for having me as a panelist for the conversation on literacy and thank you to all the Teachers doing the hard work! I was inspired by the work being done in our Delaware Department of Education (DDOE) K-5 spaces all around the state.

The state’s current Early Literacy Plan (2025–2028) is making a hard push for the Science of Reading in K–3 classrooms, but I also know that waiting until a child hits kindergarten means missing the most explosive window of brain development.

By age five, roughly 90% of a child’s brain structure is already built. But now under the leadership of Lieutenant Governor Kyle Evans Gay and the Interagency Resource Management Committee (IRMC) we are developing a coordinated, laser-focused strategy for the Birth-to-5 space on early childhood education.

With the Lt Lieutenant Governor and the incredible guidance of Secretary of Education Cindy Marten, we have a powerhouse team. Their visions complement each other perfectly.

Over the next 5 years, I believe we are going to see marked, historic changes in our state.

“False accusations” are not the crisis.
Silence is. False reports are rare, yet they are used to discount the reality that most survivors never report at all. Not because nothing happened, but because speaking is unsafe in a world that blames and punishes the victims.

Effective June 1, a 2.85% user fee will be applied to utility payments made using credit cards, debit cards, or Instant Pay Network services such as Apple Pay and Google Pay.

To help residents avoid additional fees, the City will continue to absorb all transaction costs for ACH and eCheck payments, which will remain available as convenient, fee-free options. ACH and eCheck transaction fees are significantly lower than the fees associated with credit card transactions.

Residents are encouraged to consider no-fee payment options when making utility payments. Additional information about payment methods and how to enroll in ACH or eCheck services is available through the City’s website or by contacting Payments and Utility Billing at 302.366.7000.
