Congratulations Tonga ๐Ÿ‡น๐Ÿ‡ด

Our friendly neighbors in Tonga have just completed their very first Basic Emergency Care Provider Course with Trainer-the-trainer Course to follow. A huge milestone for emergency medicine in the Pacific.

A big fa'amalล to Dr Pafilio Tangitau (Head of Emergency in Tonga) and Master trainers Dr Evelyn Anisi and Sr Doreen Siope from the Solomon Islands as well as Dr Alana Parker from New Zealand for the incredible work.

This training was supported through the Australasian College for Emergency Medicine International Development Grant

From here, Tonga has the capacity to run their own BEC with local trainers. This is the Pacific building for the Pacific.

Malo aupito and Congratulations Tonga ๐Ÿ‡น๐Ÿ‡ด

The College of Emergency Nursing Australasia (CENA) has approved the Oceanic Emergency Nursing Special Interest Group (OEN-SIG), marking a stronger, more connected future for emergency nursing across Oceania.

This builds on strong engagement across the region, with many emergency nurses already working closely with colleagues in the Pacific and supporting care in diverse, resource constrained settings. It also reflects growing interest in deeper regional connection and greater CENA engagement across Oceania.

The OEN-SIG provides a dedicated platform to bring this together, with a focus on connection, knowledge sharing and regional collaboration.

The group will launch with an open webinar for members and non-members, before moving into ongoing member engagement. It will also be formally introduced at ICEN 2026, held 14โ€“16 October in Hobart, providing a platform to showcase the initiative and connect with the broader emergency nursing community.

This marks a clear shift toward a more connected, visible and coordinated emergency nursing presence across Oceania.

Stay tuned for webinar details!
