Samoan scrum-half the “perfect package”
GRAFTON Redmen first grade coach Gary Powell describes Ravuama Seruvakula as the complete package.
And if you watched the young number-nine showcase his skills in Grafton’s two trial games... it’s hard to disagree.
Blessed with natural speed and excellent tactical awareness, Seruvakula could well be Grafton’s trump card in their bid to win a first-grade premiership.
His ability to find and exploit a gap combined with pin-point passing and formidable defence has Powell excited for the upcoming season.
“Ravu has it all,” Powell said.
“He’s quick off the mark, reads the game, can defend, and is a tough competitor.
“Also, his combination with Senio (Senio Faalupega) gives the side another dimension in attack.
The 21-year-old scrum-half, a Rugby Sevens representative player, followed in the father’s footsteps, who also made his mark in the 15-a-side game.
“I played rugby from a young age. My dad had a rugby contract in Malaysia, and I started playing over there when I was nine,” Seruvakula recalled.
“We then returned to Samoa, and I have been playing there ever since.”
One of five children and with both Fijian and Samoan heritage, the talented scrum-half plays rugby for the Marist St Josephs Sports Club in Apia, Samoa.
He also has a connection with two other high-class Redmen players in Senio Faalupega and Wally Tau.
“I play for Marists Sports Club and Senio and Wally both play for Marist Rugby Club,” he said.
“I have played against them and at times with them when one team cannot field a side…we help each other out.”
Seruvakula admits he’s not fond a big-city life, and that’s why Grafton is a perfect match.
“Grafton is a nice quiet place compared to big cities like Brisbane and Sydney, it’s friendly and peaceful,” he added
