WORLD’S TALLEST BRICK STRUCTURE (right), Anaconda, Montana.

Built in 1918, Anaconda Copper Mining stack is 585 feet, 30 feet taller than the Washington Monument. It was constructed with 2,464,652 locally-produced, curved bricks and 41,350 sacks of cement, 114 railcars of sand and fire clay. Still standing, the stack is 60 feet wide and wall thickness is 22.25 inches at the peak.

NOTE: The older photo at left showed the base of a different ACM stack, but made clear that construction was done by bricklayers using wood scaffolds.
