Went to inspect a property in St. Vincent recently. Wore sliders.
Just sliders. To a yard that hasn’t seen a cutlass since Independence.
The grass was up to my knees. There were vines with opinions. Something rustled near my ankle and I made peace with my Maker right there by the gate. Spent the whole site visit walking like a flamingo on hot coals, trying to keep my toes alive while pretending to “assess the perimeter.”
Twenty plus years as a property surveyor in the Caribbean and I still leave the house dressed like I’m going to buy a sno-cone.
Lesson learned: proper footwear isn’t optional when you’re inspecting overgrown properties in SVG. Boots. Always boots. The bush doesn’t care about your outfit.
